It is also a summary of the whole problem.

When I was last in Israel, in September 2023, I was impressed by the numbers who understood both points of view. People from both traditions.

There are people of goodwill on both sides who are capable of leading their respective people to finding solutions that, with compromises and respect, can produce ways for harmony and prosperity.

They just don’t hold the power. That’s where the international community is failing.

That there are people of goodwill in both communities doesn’t mean there aren’t also extremists in both. Unfortunately it’s the extremists who currently hold power. Our aim ought to be to encourage that to change.
