That’s not how a poll works.

For many people, our support for a state like Israel shouldn’t be dependent on how it impacts the stock market.

Sanctioning Russia also had many economic and security consequences, for example.

I suppose they could have just kept them somewhere against their will. Like a prison or a camp or something.

One thing to remember about the British involvement was that they wanted a democracy where people lived together. I would place both Arabs and Jews as responsible for the inability to coexist peacefully. I'm not convinced you can blame the Allies or Britain for letting Jews go there. Of course, it blew up in their face spectacularly but I'm not sure Britain was the reason for that.

I'd be relatively sure it was largely well intentioned but went wrong pretty quickly. I remember my grandad talking about it and he said both sides were out to kill him. He was none too happy with being there after 6 years of fighting already. Pretty much BEF, North Africa, Italy, Greece then Palestine. Consider how the British forces felt about that. I think they'd had enough. Well enough by then. At least he didn't have to fight in the jungle.

It seems good old anti-semetic ed milliband has made things worse for the Palestinians as Israel has closed the UK consulate. It will most likely disrupt aid to civilians among other things and political relations.

All to appease the hamas supporters in labour and their voters.

Agreed. The poll doesn't surprise me at all.

Pretty much everyone I speak to opposes Israeli theft of the West Bank. This includes people who on most other issues would be considered quite right-wing. They are all very bored of the lazy 'anti-semetic' and 'terrorist supporter' lines, which backfire badly.

I am disappointed with Lowe, he calls a lot of things correctly, but he's got this one badly wrong.

The fact that Israel turns on the UK so quickly after our jets defended their airspace should tell everyone everything they need to know.

Never hear you harp on about Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon being shits to the Israeli Arabs do you? Or about Saudi bombing Yemen. Nope, only whatever the Jews do.

And that's why refurendums are shite and we generally avoid them for sensible decision making.

Russia is a threat to us, Israel is an ally. The fact that it DOES cause jolts is what matters, not that in your opinion it shouldn't.

I don't agree with it either, but I also don't agree with this response as a good thing for anyone, especially us.

Lowe is bang on the money. And if Labour had any sense they'd have entered diplomacy using that air defence help as a lever, instead of throwing a tantrum.
