There is a flip side to what his agent posted.

Sarr could do his knee next week and Palace would still be obliged to pay him under the contract he signed. That is rather the point of a contract. It creates obligations on both sides.

We are not talking about some kind of master-slave relationship. We are talking about two parties who voluntarily entered into an agreement.

Sarr was perfectly entitled not to sign for Palace in the first place. Presumably, at the time, he considered Palace a step he wanted to take. Equally, his previous club had to agree to sell him. Had they refused, Palace could not simply have taken him anyway.

And there is another interesting question here. What happens if a player decides he wants to leave his agent?

I’m going to take a wild guess that the agent suddenly becomes extremely interested in the precise wording of the contract, the length of the agreement and making sure every last bit of commission he is entitled to gets paid.

Quite right too, in fairness. But what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Players should absolutely have a voice in their careers, and clubs should treat them properly. But contracts cannot suddenly become morally binding on the club and merely optional for the player whenever circumstances change.

Bringing race into that argument is, frankly, demeaning. It weakens what is otherwise a perfectly legitimate discussion about player choice, contractual rights and the balance of power between clubs, players and agents.
 
Not read all of the posts but I'm thinking a lot of the stuff I'm hearing is a combination of clickbait, agent talk and media interpretation. We know JP has been after a move now for a while but Sage saying the pair of them are happy at Palace🤷🏻‍♂️Too me they're both legends like it or not, but if they want out they need to prove their worth and we can offload them in January. Reckon this window is the best for a long time and genuinely excited for the rest of the season..forget the 2 opening games we were never going to get anything ❤️💙🦅

To be fair to Palace, we have have been very consistent with a NO SALE policy.

Monaco seemed to be using Camara as a financial pawn.... One min he's going, then he's staying, then he's going... ooops now you stay....

I can understand how unsettling that must be to the player and his family. At least Sarr and his agent were told.

Fair play as well, now every transfer window players will know that they cannot try and force moves without the clubs consent. I am sure the agent will on his words and perhaps reconsider the position.

I hope that Sarr settles himself and the club offer him a new deal with a sensible release clause. That appears to be the way forward. Semenyo & Cunha being good examples of how to keep a player happy but also allow them to leave on the club's terms.

I think the issue with Monaco is that they planned a certain level of incoming revenue from player sales.

They made some assumptions, those assumptions proved wrong and then Balogun sampled the local Liverpudlian hospitality... which led to him opting to take a sharp exit at the last minute.

In Sarr's case, it was very much Palace's position that he is a key player and we wanted him to stay unless the offer was too good to turn down. Somewhat like the early bids for Guehi from Newcastle and Liverpool.
 
The Turkish window doesn't shut til Friday evening, so we need to wait to see if that move to Galatasaray is resurrected. I can see us being a little more willing to sell now we have 25 Right sided Attackers in our squad. But, I hope we don't and Sarr realises that his stock isn't that high, and he needs to prove his worth for next summer.
 
You do have to wonder how those conversations between clubs go. Having been through the Guehi situation one would imagine Liverpool would rather have avoided going down that route again late in the window. Did Parish say “he’s not for sale end of” or was it “we wouldn’t take less than £…… and then only if we can bring in a replacement”. If the latter you’d assume we would have a verbal agreement over a figure for the replacement to guide our minimum figure for Sarr. Either way it’s crazy doing that sort of deal while the clock ticks down on deadline day.

We turned down £50 million from Liverpool, probably needing £65/70 million to be interested. Galatasaray, don’t have that sort of money. Not sure if we are sound without him, we know how we are with him. So hope he gets his head down and makes himself a big move next summer, by which time hopefully Palace have his departure covered.

On Jean-Philippe Mateta's availability: "They cannot play. As I said last time, Mateta is injured, now for three weeks.

“Everyone else [is ok] apart from our long-term injuries; Chadi [Riad] and [JP] Mateta, every other player has recovered well.”
