Immigration

Well, if you can't stop something, then presumably you just roll over and let it continue to happen.

If it hasn't happened, maybe because they don't want it to happen?

Why would France want to have the problem, if it can unload some people onto the UK? If Britain got really tough then France could then have momentum to get tough with its neighbours to stop arrivals at their border. But that would mean a fundamental clash with the EU's free movement...as I imply, they don't want a solution.
France already has a problem. Their major cities have ghettos full of immigrants.

Much more likely that the numbers would increase because of the lack of restrictions.
What restrictions? They would stop coming because they would no longer receive the largesse that attracts them here in the first place.

Because it isn’t the “largesse”. It’s the picture that’s been sold to them of the opportunity to work and build a life for themselves. Any support provided is minimal and ought be very temporary before a decision on their status is made.

Remove the checks and you allow them to disappear into the black economy or turn to crime as their only way to survive. The checks and the accommodation restrict that from happening.

Your idea would not stop anyone. It would make things worse.

It's largesse to put people up in hotels. The French don't see the need to do it.

Of course it would stop them coming. Without the ridiculous level of support that they receive they would not come. There are no checks, just massive incentives for them to continue coming. Many of them get involved in the black economy and crime anyway, so what do we have to lose.

Amazing how Australia managed to stop it whereas according to the third world ambassador of Cornwall we cannot.

Those in charge don’t want to address it because they care more about being called racist by the usual idiots than their own country and people.

There’s no issue whatsoever with anyone being called racist! What a nonsensical idea.

There are practical difficulties and legal obligations involved but everyone wants to reduce and gradually eliminate illegal immigration, whoever is attempting to do it.

The French send them to reception centres but only a proportion of them stay there. The others disappear. The French authorities receive criticism for their lack of control and ineffective system. Would you want us to imitate that?

A great deal.

If we stopped processing them we lose any kind of control. The support is actually quite minimal. Just enough to survive. Stopping the shelter and food would not stop them coming when they have already traveled thousands of miles and incurred huge debts to do so. It would just turn them out into the black market or a world of crime. A place where some end already but others don’t. Your way would result in them all having no other choice.
