Immigration

No one has yet addressed why this is thought suitable for the Immigration thread.

Digwa is British born. He just happens to be a Sikh.

Most of the debate over this terrible murder, other than here, is about the permission given to Sikhs to carry a knife for religious reasons.

As someone who strongly opposes any kind of exceptionalism for religious reasons I think this is ridiculous and needs to be banned asap.

I have always thought allowing Sikhs to ride a motorcycle without a crash helmet to be wrong. They might only be risking themselves but with a free at the point of use health service it also impacts us. They ought only to have the choice of not riding a motorcycle if their beliefs are so strong.

Religion is a private matter. It ought not impact others in any way. Carrying a large knife is illegal. The law applies to all. No exceptions.
Last throw of a desperate man !

The racism on show is that white people are now the villains and everyone else is the victims. It's all the DEI training the police get these days.
The racism on show here is that you categorise people by their skin colour.

If you mean people like you, say so. The colour of our skins is probably very similar but you don’t speak for me.

I don't think that is true, and I don't know why we would pretend that the conduct of the police in this case isn't a major cause for concern - I think it's a perfectly reasonable assumption that sensitivity around being perceived as racist impacted the police response to the situation, and that resulted in a young man losing his life, when it may well have been preventable.

I don't know why so many on the left struggle to condemn things like this - it's an appalling waste of a young life, for which the body employed to protect us are at least partially responsible, seemingly as a result of whatever biases they have internalised.

That needs addressing.

Exactly - it could have been any of us. Or someone we knew. And it isn't good enough. There needs to be no politics or ideology in policing.

The mother is an Indian national. Hence the relevance of the immigration topic. The murderer is a second generation immigrant.

As far as I know she took the weapon and hid it? And tried to cover for her son?

I don’t know but think it more likely than not given when the large wave of migration from the Punjab happened. I would think it more likely his grand mother was an immigrant.

None of which matters. He is.
The only English thing about him is that he unfortunately lives in this country
