The primary difference between a riot and violent public disorder in UK law is the scale and intent: a riot requires 12 or more people acting for a common purpose. As Runningman doesn't have a firm grasp on the English language.
Still waiting for the Police to describe what’s happening in Epsom as riots , Disorder and anti-social behaviour is about the strongest I’ve read from PC plod Epsom .
You should look up drama queen and it’s not a horse in this Junes Derby .

DRAMA QUEEN definition: a person who often has exaggerated or overly emotional reactions to events or situations

Their own front door isn't a concern compared to being out on the streets. After what's happened in other parts of the country it's hardly a surprise that they're concerned. This information has previously been suppressed apparently in the interest of community cohesion so maybe there was a suspicion it had happened again.
It’s nonsense to be concerned about something that the police doubt actually happened, let alone if it did that immigrants were involved. It’s not a surprise that people on the right jump to conclusions these days, that at least is true. The police are being very open these days in order to avoid this type of thing. Too open in my view. My opinion is that no information should be given on anyone until after a conviction.

"Shameful" scenes have been condemned by a police and crime commissioner (PCC) after violence broke out in Epsom and four arrests were made.

Surrey PCC Lisa Townsend said those responsible for disorder on Monday night, including throwing missiles at police officers and targeting hotels and homes, should expect to face "the full force of the law".

She said some of those involved were not local and blamed misinformation, including false claims that asylum seekers were being housed at locations targeted during the disorder.

Townsend said tensions were heightened following the report of a rape on 11 April, but stressed police had found no evidence linking the case to asylum seekers or immigrants.

'Misinformation online'

Officers are continuing to review footage to identify further suspects.

"The mindless scenes we witnessed last night where our police officers were targeted with missiles were nothing short of shameful," she said, adding that while she supported the right to lawful protest, some people had "stepped way beyond that line".

She said her message to those "intent on stirring up trouble under the guise of legitimate protest" was to stay away.

Tensions in the town were heightened after a reported rape
The PCC said the past week had been extremely challenging for the local community following the reported rape.

She said: "I have always been a strong advocate for the safety of women and girls in all our communities in Surrey and I am well aware of the concern and fear that is felt when these type of reports are made."

Townsend said sexual assault allegations were treated with utmost seriousness by Surrey Police, and investigations after the reported rape had been "painstaking and extensive".

She added: "Surrey Police has said there is no evidence this case involves asylum seekers or immigrants.

"But clearly this does not suit the narrative some want to push and we are still seeing misinformation being spread online which I believe helped fuel the scenes we witnessed last night.

"This unhelpful speculation has made a difficult situation even worse."
Epsom Methodist Church closed early amid the protests for safety reasons.

The Reverend Catherine Hutton, from the church, told BBC Radio Surrey: "I think people have a right to be able to be in their home without feeling threatened and victimised whatever their background, whatever their context."

She has urged people to be "calm".

"We call for people to be respectful of one another and to afford each other the dignity that we ourselves would wish to receive," she added.

Hutton said the community would "come through this".

"Epsom's an amazing place, it's resilient and full of good people that are hopeful and loving and generous and kind," she added.

So only right wingers want to know who it may have been. Ok if you think that you clearly are a bit demented. All sides of the political base have concerns. I mean this young lady and her family may have voted labour !

Who said it was only right wingers?

That said I nevertheless expect that the vast majority who get wound up over this kind of thing have their political views firmly grounded on the right. Those who wrap themselves in Union flags etc and protest outside hotels they have been led to believe, erroneously, are housing illegal immigrants tend to be.

I concede lastnight the protestors went too far but they still hold valid concerns ..
They did and do but their concerns can be dismissed by a blanket description of them as extreme right wingers and thugs, etc.
It's the same tactic that explains a lack of interest in women's football as misogyny, patriotism as fascism or criticism of the mayor as Islamophobia - a way of cancelling wrong think.

  • Disorder at Epsom: Protests on Monday, April 20, 2026, "escalated to public disorder," with reports of missiles, including eggs and beer cans, thrown at police officers.
  • Police Response: Around 100 officers were deployed, with many in full protective public order gear, to manage the situation.
  • Public Order Action: While specific mentions of a legal section being read aloud in the street are not explicitly confirmed in the provided text, the police formally warned that they would take "robust action" against criminality. The Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner also stated those involved would face the "full force of the law".
  • Context: The protests followed a reported rape in Epsom, which police later stated they had not found evidence for as reported, and stemmed from false rumors that asylum seekers were being housed in local hotels.

Four people have been arrested after eggs and beer cans were thrown during a protest in a Surrey town where police are investigating a reported rape.

The demonstration in Epsom "escalated to public disorder" and involved "missiles being thrown", Surrey Police said.

A woman in her 20s was reportedly followed after leaving a nightclub in the early hours of 11 April and attacked outside Epsom Methodist Church, with police later saying there was no evidence immigrants or asylum seekers had been involved.

About 30 officers with riot shields appeared to be protecting a property during a live stream of the protest.
Surrey Police said it began at 17:00 BST outside the train station, before individuals "targeted local hotels and residential properties with claims they were housing people seeking asylum" which it said was "wholly inaccurate information".

Nobody does dismiss them for that reason. They are dismissed because they aren’t real and would be whatever the politics of those involved.

Being concerned about the behaviour of asylum seekers who arrived here illegally but are being housed whilst due process runs its course is not unreasonable. Making assumptions that every incident that could be explained by that, is due to that, is not reasonable. As they are apparently being encouraged by right wing agitators to believe it, it is not unreasonable to criticise it as right wing inspired.

I have no interest in women’s football. Not because I am misogynistic but because I find it tepid. However I know some who think it’s very skilful. Patriotism is not fascism. However there are some who hide unpleasant, far right attitudes, under a cloak of patriotism. Criticism of anyone for simply being Muslim is indeed Islamophobia. Criticism of their policies isn’t.
