Tbf there is actually a big housing crisis in many tourist areas in Spain due to second homes being bought as holiday home/lets. That’s why there’s anger with the locals.

The Spanish government recently floated a 100% tax on property purchases for non-EU nationals (effectively doubling the price) to help alleviate the situation and placate people. Unlikely to happen though.

The ex pat Anglo brings money and isn't going to rape their kids, start crime gangs nor call them racists.....but Johnny Foreigner...in this case us....is always going to decrease social cohesion.

The Spanish are entitled to be p1ssed off about this as this is their country and they should always come first and they should limit how many of our boomers can go over there and exploit better situations.

The native should always come first in their own countries.

This is why people posting this stuff is so unhelpful as it either ruins people’s full experience of a place or puts people off going full stop.

Barcelona is an amazing city and perfectly safe. There’s pickpockets knocking about La Rambla in the main tourist trap area (which you’ll get in any city looking for easy pickings) but other than that it’s absolutely fine and never had one iota of trouble (unless you try and speak Spanish and not Catalan to some people…)

Yes lots of pickpockets there, and growing. 80% of detainees are foreigners, but it’s okay hey? After all, that’s the growing trend everywhere. The result of Muslim migration and intended takeover of Europe, which you’re fine with, as we know.

As a local, no one likes a tourist, unless their job involves tourism.

Still, a million times better than a foreigner claiming your birth right and nationality for economic reasons and then expecting you to be fine with it.

We see when hotels are closed to tourists but open for immigrants it destroys towns and villages. Where tourists spend their money in local cafes and restaurants the immigrants just hang around causing trouble and get their free 3 meals a day at the hotels without spending any money in the local area. This the local business have to close.

That's my position on it anyway. But I can also understand that in Spain specifically there seems to be a lot of second homes so it does contribute to a shortage of housing In some places.

Agree with this but Spain does actually have a lot more land to build on than us, but the Mañana culture prevents this happening, plus the government make it very difficult for self employed small businesses to operate. Sounds like France.

It would be madness for Spain to not have tourism as one of its main economic levers.

However, Europe must put its own people first, even when dealing with fellow Europeans. Each country needs to move away from this 'line go up' model which the third world and non Europeans generally abuse....most obvious with Islamic immigration (who classically have large families where women are on benefits and they more than not operate ethnic nepotism in business).

Of course there are excellent people from anywhere but as a rule each country needs to understand that if Spain isn't for the Spanish, Germany for the Germans, Britain for the British.....then Europe is finished.

It may already be too late.

Spain’s Muslim migration problem is mainly in the South East, especially Murcia, and it’s going to get a lot worse with Spain now taking in more so called ‘refugees’ (economic migrants as they’ve been all along). Barcelona has a problem but apparently not. The 80% of crime committed by foreigners isn’t relevant. Ignore it.

correct Eagle. As you know , bars & restaurants are closing at a massive rate in Ireland. Hotels full of refugees are not the same as hotels full of american tourists. Less cash circulating the village. Impossible to even find a cheap hotel room.

Very true this. There is a daily ferry that operates between Algiers & Alicante, lots of North Africans coming in & dispersing. Murcia airport is a fairly quiet airport for tourists as you have Malaga to the south & Elche(Alicante) to the north. Good thing tho, is they can't come in via Gibraltar, too much security 😎

Fertility ? it seems to be a statistic that our Elites would like us to ignore ? Especially the demographic types that are no longer reproducing at all.

Does anybody knows a young Nigel, on minimum wage, who has a house, a wife, and a few kids ? or is that what the BBC would refer to as being 'old fashioned' ? When you find him, we can put him into a display cabinet in the British Museum....along with all the other dinosaurs.

I noticed that it's pretty much kept in check by the Alicante police when I was there. All I saw was the usual people selling fake crap at the town beach. I was staying at one of the other local beaches and there was nothing there at all.

People's holiday experiences aren't meant to be court cases you know.....they aren't required to balance them....if they think something is shite then it's a perspective just as valid as any other.

People can watch it and make their own mind up as to whether it's fair or not.
