We should sell Mateta and buy someone good from Europe to replace him. He needs 3 clear chances to score one goal. Look at Dalglish, Rush, Fowler and Sheringham.

Personally I think you’re one of the top 8 teams in the league. Yeah I know you didn’t finish there, but you guys were for the cup - rightly. You’re better than Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham and the other clubs that hover and compete around 7-10.

I agree, however, it’s easy to decline and hard to ascend in the Premier League. Being in Europe is glamorous but heavily taxing on legs. The best teams I remember played the same starting 11 all the time and that is simply impossible now in a 60 game season. We produced very sub standard performances when Sarr, Wharton, Kamada and Munoz were absent. I think we need high quality replacements in these positions to survive and then improve. Regarding the defence, if Lacroix goes, that would be a huge mistake as he is the talisman of the team. The youngsters will come good but mistakes will happen as they progress. Midfield, we absolutely must keep Wharton and Kamada. Up front, I think we are ok with what we have…even though Mateta needs 4 chances to score one goal.

Agreed but I think the Argentina team are as good as they come at totting up niggly infringements throughout their team.

Paredes, for example, did enough to get at least 4 yellow cards in the 120 minutes before it dawned on him at the final whistle that - in his own head - he was Chuck Norris reincarnated. Several other teammates were also lucky to stay on.

Our weakness last season was 'scoring goals'............and we only got away with it cos our defence was rock solid.

new season ? it all depends upon what players we can keep.

Heres my take on it, we find players and get the absolute best out of them, there arent many people who have left and done better than when they were with us (Olise, Sorloth & Banford being the exceptions over the last few years), long may it continue. & I think having this ethos makes us pretty bl00dy good.

I can see the beginning of the year being used more like an extended preseason (that happens to count) as we try to figure out what works and what doesn't before settling into a rhythm.

As long as it doesn't take long. West Ham went down last year because they lost and Spurs won in their first games of the season

We have Doucoure back fit now, who is a huge upgrade on Kamada and Lerma and even Hughes. If we can get him close to his best again, our CM is sorted I believe.
