Also shows we are not planning for the future we are living now hand to mouth......

Yet again we are not moving forward we are hardly treading water.

He's made 28 appearances in his entire career. Loan to buy later - fair enough. This feels like doing Chelsea a favour. We'll give him some experience. We needed an experienced centre back.

I think we need to accept Riad is done and move on. Three serious injuries before the age of 25. He’s spent less time playing than on the treatment table. It’s not like he looked like a world beater in the few games he did play for us. I feel sorry for him but realistically we need to move on. Nobody is going to be offering him a long contract once he finishes with us. That could be that for his career now at the top level. Very sad

100% this. We desperately need leadership and organisation at the back. Have done since Guehi left. The fact we went into the window knowing this and that Lacroix was leaving but didn’t have centre halves lined up is extraordinary.
 
If we were in the conference league again some of our signings would get games. But in the Europa there are only a couple of genuinely weak opponents. And they will not be stupid or rubbish either.
I think Steve needs to realise we need at least average Premier League quality to actually compete. Some youngsters who have barely played are not going to be regular starters in the premier League and can only really play a bit part in Europe or the cups.
Even then, Middlesbrough, for instance, will be too cute for our youngsters. We'll have to play the first team - or just lose.
 
He's already made two senior appearances for Italy at 18, which perhaps speaks to his pedigree. He's also supposed to be very quick, from what I've read, which would be a big asset having lost Lacroix's pace from the back line. Another important thing is that he is used to playing in a back three.

It is a bit cr@p that we'd basically be babysitting Chelsea's future, but needs must, and we have a big need and little time to address it!

Italy will have called him up in order to stop his other Nation calling him up. From the name I'm presuming an African Nation. Also Italy aren't that good.

It simply buys time.
The Riad injury was a complete curve ball, this seems to address it in as pragmatic a way as one could hope. We now have 12 months to review and hopefully strengthen without panicking.
That said, it still smells a bit off, and just another loophole found to accommodate the avarice of the 'top tier'. I wouldn't mind if it felt clever, but this is barely Arthur Daley level scamming.

If Riad getting injured was a curve ball then it reflects very poorly on the planning by the club. This is a player who has spent the majority of his professional career injured and was injured at the World Cup. Most of us feel very sorry for him but I’ve not seen anyone be especially shocked he got a serious injury. Mostly the reaction seems to have been that it was a matter of time before it happened.

It is of course ‘a bit off’ but Chelski has demonstrated time and again that there are limited consequences in gaming the system. Palace have just said ‘if we can’t beat them, might as well join them’.
As Ive said before Football is eating itself.
Not gonna even mention the Maguire handball from yesterday !
