Apparently an appointment like this goes to a robust vetting process. The media are saying that this process threw up his questionable relationship so that process does not seem at fault. If you are told someone is a wrong un and you ignore that who is to blame?

It's quite interesting as the vetting process like this gives people certain security level access. If the government has overridden the process to give security clearance to a high level, then further questions need to be asked. Surely the Ambassador to the US has access to high level material. This is worse than it appears.

The Ambassador's role is really to be the messenger boy for his government so most senior civil servants could do the job. With communication technology I rather think the role has diminished from say pre war. After all why talk to the monkey when you can speak to the organ grinder.

Labour are trying to say the yanks loved him and he has been doing a great job on trade. I rather doubt that, the donkey work is done by Foreign Office staff. I can't see Mandy getting familiar with the minutia of UK versus US farming.

The new guy is a career civil servant, he's probably wondering why he didn't get the job in the first place.

This business with Mandleson is beyond fishy. Why now? This idea the Epstein stuff has come as any great surprise is beyond belief. They would have KNOWN all of this existed before appointing him. I always believed it was the primary reason he was appointed in the first place.

For me this is about who actually had those emails 'leaked' to them. Bloomberg.

And if they have those emails, they have others.....

Possibly a threat? A kind of 'if we can do this to the British Ambassador to the US then imagine who else we can hurt?' Effectively a warning shot.

Apparently Mandelson committed the well known crime of sticking by a friend through thick and thin and has been vilified and sacked for that,yes I know Epstein was a very heinous character but true friendship is now a commodity that is easily transferable and no longer a virtue.
 
Politics is just like Football management. A true leader will distance themselves from anybody perceived as toxic or a loser.

Two Tier Keir seems to surround himself with them. And they will certainly drag his political career to the bottom of the Ocean.

Even the biggest villain in the world must be open to guidance. I tend to help friends rather than ignore them,some people take a wrong turn and need to sort it out and get back to decent ways.A friend of mine recently hit a very bad patch,brick by brick it is now over and things are on an even keel.I don't know the colours for help and forgiveness.

To a point I agree with you and have done the same. A mate who stole money pleaded guilty I helped his family out whilst he was in jail and him when he came out.

However I draw the line at some crimes and Epstein was well over that. Mandelson continued to support him even after he was convicted and doing jail time. Nah, that is the bridge to far.
