Didn't want to start a new thread so here will do.
San Francisco is a Democrat stronghold and is currently looking at the issue of slavery reparations. Among more than 100 recommendations are:

Payments of $5m to every eligible Black adult.
The elimination of personal and credit card debt and tax burdens.
Guaranteed annual incomes of at least $97,000 for 250 years.
Homes in San Francisco for $1 a family.

In all probability none of this will happen but it seems extraordinary to even consider these measures for anyone.

Yes and no.

The problem is that people like him want to support policies that will impact on our young long after they are dead. They won't be around to reap the consequences of their stupidity.

Thanks, I'd forgotten that one.
Mine wasn't so much about reparations per se but more the willingness of some politicians to bankrupt the majority of their voters, and future generations, out of some weird referred guilt.

Socialism does create equality. An egalitarian society inhabited by only poor people.

But yes, on the other hand......everybody was poor. Poor food, poor clothing, poor cars, poor artwork, poor literature & journalism.

Whenever a lefty replies "the Soviet Union was not proper socialism. True Socialism is fantastic because blah blah......." You can always reply "oh yes. Hitler & General Franco were not proper Fascism. True Fascism is fantastic because blah blah....." Then challenge them to provide a case of even ONE country that had a good time with Socialism.

My wife grew up in Yugoslavia (admittedly not part of the wider Soviet bloc) and her and her friends are unanimous that they had fantastic upbringings. I worked with Romanians who said that whilst there were issues with how they grew up, the streets were safe, everybody worked, nobody went hungry.

And when you watch various videos about Russia, they always mention the popular canteens that still exist that offer good value meals, how every town had active social lifes, of chess clubs, of literature discussions. All under Communism. There was one video about a rail line that was built in Siberia with various sections built by volunteers from different parts of the USSR. Ditto with some of the big projects in Yugoslavia.

Stalin ruled over a Soviet Union that put a man into space before the West. And put a drinking water supply into every village.

I am increasingly suspicious of what we have been told about how bad the East actually was. And is now.

And lets not start about what Germany went from, when the 'good' guys were running in up until the early 30's, to what they had achieved come 1939.

Dictatorships are actually probably pretty good for the over-whelming majority of people.

I do see your point. If you can eat. Socialise and do s*** what is the problem.
If there is something missing then go find it. Most of us have a simple life and only want the basics.

Except they all worked pretty hard and could save. Difference was the almost complete lack of debt. No credit cards, no leases on expensive cars, nothing like that. Basic food stuffs were subsidized, rents were cheap (and in Yugoslavia for example you could own your own homes and land if you wanted plus travel freely. Before the breakup, Yugoslavs did not need visas for most Western countries).

Yugoslavia did go through a period of pretty rampent inflation but again, they got it under control. In fact there is a case made, admittedly by a mix of far-left and right types, that Yugoslavia was actually functioning pretty well until the US State department decided to try and scre it all up because the entire place was deemed to not actually have enough sovereign debt.

So Yugoslavia, just prior to its break up, and with adjustments for inflation, had a 38 billion dollar debt compared to a combined figure now, for all its former parts, of 258 billion dollar debt.

Democracy does wonders for that debt.

I am sure there are. Plus plenty of Croats, Serbs etc.

But those are the noisy ones. Again, I am not sure travel docs on You Tube are verifiable sources but I will put this out there. On a variety of them, where people explore the former Soviet Union, a constant theme is people talking about how much better life was then. And I am sure plenty of Germans, if interviewed in the years following WW2, might have talked about how much better life was in Germany before it all imploded.

My point is we are lied and lied and lied to. About so much. Just urging people to keep an open mind.

Our politics in the West is currently informed by some of the worst people ever to have existed. The likes of Johnson, of Blair. People who sell their own out for profit. People who literally invent excuses to fight wars nobody wants.

How many Brits died in Afghanistan? And for what? To actually lose? Because we lost that war. And now we are being pushed to fight Russia. For what? For who?

The Left destroying our civilisation is not ideological. Instead they are literal virtue signalling junkies. Hooked on the dopamine via their pathological 'empathy'. For Rapists. In fact, for any scum bag as long as they are not white. And when they are, they even allow them to be redefined as 'Travellers'. The ulimate farce of all this DEI BS. That is not the old-style socialists. Of every flavour. Old style socialists locked up criminals. Dealt with them in the way they deserved.

Stalin wanted peace. He offered it in 1952. The Stalin note. Worth looking into. And asking why it was rejected? Ditto with why Putin discussed actually joining Nato. Rejected. Russia promised NATO would not expand up to its borders. Again, a lie on our part.

We are not the good guys we are led to believe. We are being played. And have been for decades. Ever since WW1.
