Didn't want to start a new thread so here will do.
San Francisco is a Democrat stronghold and is currently looking at the issue of slavery reparations. Among more than 100 recommendations are:

Payments of $5m to every eligible Black adult.
The elimination of personal and credit card debt and tax burdens.
Guaranteed annual incomes of at least $97,000 for 250 years.
Homes in San Francisco for $1 a family.

In all probability none of this will happen but it seems extraordinary to even consider these measures for anyone.

Yes and no.

The problem is that people like him want to support policies that will impact on our young long after they are dead. They won't be around to reap the consequences of their stupidity.

Thanks, I'd forgotten that one.
Mine wasn't so much about reparations per se but more the willingness of some politicians to bankrupt the majority of their voters, and future generations, out of some weird referred guilt.

Socialism does create equality. An egalitarian society inhabited by only poor people.

Upon planning to send one of his senior Politicians to a conference in The West, Josef Stalin commented than it would be unseemly to wear a tatty jacket with the sleeves all ripped up.

Socialism/Communism does create a 2 Tier society. The Russian Politburo/Intelligensia had their own bespoke lane on the motorway - off limits to everybody else. Inner Party members were a protected Elite. Working in every bureaucracy by making life a misery for everybody else.

But yes, on the other hand......everybody was poor. Poor food, poor clothing, poor cars, poor artwork, poor literature & journalism.

Whenever a lefty replies "the Soviet Union was not proper socialism. True Socialism is fantastic because blah blah......." You can always reply "oh yes. Hitler & General Franco were not proper Fascism. True Fascism is fantastic because blah blah....." Then challenge them to provide a case of even ONE country that had a good time with Socialism.
