Guessand

In the words of Cilla Black £36 million is a lotta lotta money for a sub. You probably haven't heard of Cilla either.
Is it your money?

Yes I've heard of Cilla Black, I'm not that young either.

the deal for Guessand is £28m, which probably includes some add ons.

IMHO whilst he's done ok and has deserved to start (albeit a low bar as Pino and Johnson were struggling so much) i'm not sure if he's done enough to earn a contract and if he does i'm unsure where he will play.

We have quite a few right footed players, none of whom look comfortable on the left side. Guessand falls into this group and is surely behind Sarr.

Despite being almost invisible thus far, as we've paid £35m for Johnson surely we need to persevere with him, if only as a sub.

Guessand seems to be an Uche upgrade and he was never a starter.

Unless another loan is possible next season, i would not take up the current option to buy terms.

Fully agree. He's been nowhere near good enough to justify 28m in my opinion. We can't afford to keep overpaying for underperforming 'stars '.

Johnson 35m, Nketiah 30m, JSL 50m all look like players we paid about 50% too much on.

I like him so if we can sign him I would be happy. I'm sure Parish will try and get the price down.

Maybe even more. So we have overdone it with these three by say £40m which is manageable for our club and definitely our shareholders. All three are sort of ok when they play (at differing levels) and are all good enough to be in our enlarging squad. We need to make much better use of Johnson if that is possible.
There are a lot of good and interesting comments on here. Above all, we really need to try and find a better replacement for Dougie. However we have tried to replace him is clearly not the solution.

I find it very easy to believe that Guessand can get in ahead of Johnson and Pino, but very hard to believe he's worth £28m, or even that he's good enough.

We have to persevere with the former two and hope they come good, as we can't simply walk away from them. We can with Guessand, and should.

I think we need to be patient and give these new players time. With Mateta and Kamada (who incidentally were gash when they first joined) leaving and a new manager coming in, I still think they'll all come good i.e. Johnson, JSL, Pino (Guessand if he stays) and even Nketiah!

P.S. I actually think JSL has been decent, just been lacking in service.

As I understand it there's an option in this deal not an obligation. So there is no reason why we can't offer say £20m or any other figure you think appropriate.£28m is too much. I think there's something about him and I'm assuming Uche is going back. With Mateta likely going too he might have a price point. Villa have PSR issues so maybe £20m would appeal.

Agree.

I think he's being asked to do a lot with little in terms of chance creation for him.

If the team starts performing more effectively as a unit, reducing the burden on JSL and creating more chances for him, I'm sure he's capabale of putting them away.

In reality this is much more likely. He's been ok, but not £28m ok.

Villa will know that, and clearly dont want him anyway. From their perspective its better to lose £4m and get him gone, then hold out for more.
