Although I was no fan of Vieira it’s important to also note that Eze was returning after a serious Achilles injury too.

I remember getting a ticket for the Arsenal game in lockdown and being absolutely gutted that Eze (a player who I wanted us to sign for 18 months before we did) got injured days before the game and I wouldn’t see him play.

Hi Rich, and many congratulations to you too - especially for your semi final win !

Not sure re Guessand myself - I certainly wouldn’t pay £28m or close to that for him. The rumour mill suggested we will try to sign him though

Possibly, especially if our new manager wants him. He's done ok for us when he's played and shown promise. He obviously fitted in here better than with you.

BTW congrats on winning the Europa (which I saw at the home of a Villa fan friend here in Birmingham) and keeping the trophy warm for us hopefully, although with AC Milan, Juventus, Marseilles, Bayer Leverkusen, Benfica etc,. we've got our work cut out.

He didn't meet the criteria for the £28m transfer to be automatically triggered (8 goal involvements) as he was injured for a while.

He talks like he's here long term though and i think we'll sign him for between £20-25m.

Or we'll give you £40m if you can take brennan johnson off us too!!

If Villa know he ain't good enough for them and we don't seem to rate him much, why not go after somebody else? I know we will be short of numbers but we shouldn't buy players just to make the numbers look better. If we dilute the quality at the current rate/projection we'll just fade away. We are unlikey to see any more trophies if we are not more prudent with our purchases.

I hope not, i think there is better value around, Larsen, Pino and Johnson are still only 24/25, time to develop, i think there might be more value in the cheaper market, than buying another 24 year old

Guessand is only 24 y.o. and has won two European cups in the same season, I like a lucky player and he seems to achieve something when he plays, He did not fit in at Villa and most of their fans do not want him back but after scoring against Brightelmstone he won some elbow room with me.
 
Guessand came in at a very tricky time at the club. And didn't wilt like Johnson.

He played a very useful and important part in the slow rebuild of the spirit within the squad that helped us recover our mojo that rebooted our season - ultimately to Leipzig victory. It was good on the highlights of our route to victory videos to see him pop up at key times in the early knockout stages

He had a bit more unpredictability on the ball, positive attitude and delivered some good things on the pitch (shame about the Arsenal offside though!)

If he's happy, the new manager is on board and we can get him for a bit less I can see it happening - which Villa might be open to as they will be awash with Champions League money incoming and will want to get their squad in shape for next season quickly

Interesting to see how he does at the World Cup

But he did open the Brighton defence up and leave Sarr, just the goalkeeper to beat. Pity injury kept him out of the side, he was showing more than some of our other signings. If last summers window is anything to go by the fee for him is not over the top.

I agree, from what I’ve seen of him he is streets ahead of Johnson and more active around the pitch than Strand Larson.

If we buy him, we will then have Pino and Guessand left, Sarr and Johnson right, Strand Larson and Nketiah or AN Other down the middle.

I think Cardines showed enough that he can be uplifted to back up in the main squad, so if we lose Wharton and Kamada and Lerma we probably need 3 quality replacement midfielders, one centre half and one centre forward (preferably that giant we were looking at) who can give us an alternative attacking threat.
