So what has changed in the German demographics past few years that could explain this?

Only a brief read reveals a couple of things.

Firstly, it says “The number of offences committed by "immigrants" also fell by around 9%”. So it is relevant, but not in the way some might have anticipated.

Secondly, whilst the headline mentions the increase in reported rapes it ignores the increase, of almost the same percentage, of murder and manslaughter. This is also relevant because whilst a reported increase could simply mean that more rapes are being reported now because of the attention given to it, it is unlikely that murder or manslaughter goes unreported. Therefore which of these two statistics deserves a headline?

You suggest that it could be that more rapes are being reported but the article also states, from a study, that only 6% of sexual offences are reported. This means there could be as many as 660 cases per day, which is quite frightening to consider.

Police said the men's immigration status was "refugee". Five of the defendants entered the country on small boats, according to the police. One came to the UK concealed on a lorry and another arrived via a port, all seven men spoke via interpreters.
