Glasner to Forest

I have to say that I won't be following what Glasner does at all. I will be wanting Forest to do badly but that would have been the case anyway.
I don't want anyone to do well except Palace anyway. Yes, I'm that petty and small minded.
I agree, I'll admit to feeling a bit annoyed at Glasner for going to Forest when I first heard but this is mainly because of how much trouble they tried to stir up for Palace this time last year and I'd have thought he'd have seen it the same way. Obviously not.
I dont hate Forest more than our traditional rivals Brighton & Millwall. I'd laugh if Glasner failed there (having spent loads of Marinakis money). I'd be happy to see it all fall apart there but I'm far more invested in Sage, our team and what we're going to aim for and achieve this year.

I'll follow what he does at Forest - as for all his moaning that he never got the players in he wanted, he now has that opportunity at Forest. not sure he's never had this before.. will "his choices" be up to it?

People keep selling our players to forest because glasner gone there , forest next season lge cup , fa cup , try and not get in a relegation scrap , us on the other hand lge cup , fa cup , europa cup and maybe mid table , as a player what club would you go to , and we're more stable when it comes to management , and a new one to

Things you love to read 🙂

That has saved me digging out a direct quote from Kamada is response to an earlier post. He said he wanted to stay in the Premier League, he wanted to stay in London because his family are settled, and he likes it at Crystal Palace. I know he divides opinion, but I think this is excellent news. He and Wharton worked well together. If he hadn’t signed we would have had to spend money on a replacement.

The only player that was 100% a Glasner signing at Palace with zero input from anyone else was of course Kamada. He has ended his contract with us in good form but he received loads of criticism in his first year. To the point of fans groaning when seeing his name on the team sheet.
Interesting that he has turned his form around and despite well documented interest from Glasner to take him to Forest on a free he has opted to sign a new contract with Palace today

Spot on Den.

I don't see OG as a 'League' and therefore long-term manager, as his career reflects. He's a tournament manager. He can bring Cup trophies but he can't balance that with the full time role. He comes in with very specific goals in mind, he has stated this intention himself - giving the fans 'moments'.

Was all more than worth it in the end, IMHO, but the week to week supporting of Palace was utter dross last season. You can't deny what OG delivered, was beyond my wildest dreams, however I think it's unsustainable. Therefore he almost has to move on to another job to try and repeat the same trick. I think any claims of it being a 'bigger' job are erroneous. I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Would OG win the Europa League with us and have a strong PL/FA Cup/League Cup season? Almost certainly not. Therefore, taking over at nearly relegated Nottingham Forest who haven't won anything in donkey's but have a large squad and a fat mess who throws money at everything, is a far better arrangement aligned to OG's personal style/career goals.
Agreed. I will never not respect him for giving us the FA cup. That will always be the holy grail reached for me personally as a Palace fan. I don’t dwell on winning the premier league or champions league… but the FA cup and the day it turned into was better than anything I could have imagined. It was absolutely magical.

However the liar is a turncoat. He rolled the dice thinking he would get a Spurs or Liverpool or Utd. If he is honest with himself he did not quit on us to manage Forest and live in the midlands…

I also wonder now that his preferred set up of Plan A and only Plan A and a little bit of Plan A on the side when things go bad is known… will he have the same impact at Gump as he did with us?

But as many others have said he is gone… viva la Sage. Onwards and upwards hopefully.

Daichi Kamada still running the show.

Happy with this one.

They only won 1x top flight title under Clough. They never won the FA cup under Clough. And he's the reason Forest are where they are today anyway. Take him out the equation and they are small than Wigan!

Palace has only won something under OG whats your point to be selective because you don't like the truth

Clough was at Forest for almost 20 years

Who cares which manager was in charge they are a big club because of there pedigree.

2 European Championships
2 FA Cup
4 English Cups
1 UEFA Super Cup
1 Top Flight League Championship

Yeah they are a small club.

He definitely had bigger clubs in mind. Either here or in Germany. I never thought a truly ‘big’ club would take him on given his footballing style and being outspoken. His rant at Sunderland definitely put paid to that.

What is for sure is Forest’s owner will be nowhere near as patient as Pairsh was with runs of very poor league form and Glasner being critical. I think a few quid on him being gone by Christmas could be a good bet

Interesting that it's only for 12 months. despite loving life in London.

A few things spring to mind here. He will be 30 in a few weeks so maybe Palace didn't want to commit to a longer deal, especially if wages are similar to his old deal.

Maybe Kamada wants to keep his options open longer term so the 12 months suits all parties.

Ideally i would have preferred 1 year with an option of a second. However, overall it's good news and one less squad issue for Sage to think about.

Are we sure that that isn't what has happened?

Good points. I can see Forest going strong in league cup games this season as they don't have European games. It will be amusing if they get knocked out early.

With the extra games Palace had you could see last December was a perfect storm - too many games, potentially whilst a few are out injured etc

Clearly OG wanted a few more signings last summer but the December/January debacle was always on the cards. His reaction was every disappointing and he took no personal responsibility for not rotating the squad enough, especially in weaker Conference games, and rarely playing some squad members.

Our league performances were woeful from c Nov onwards. Not only did we only finish 15th, but were helped with late winners against say Wolves and Newcastle which helped paper over some of the cracks.

Nothing really unusual in Palace finishing in 15 th as we have always finished in the bottom half over the past twelve seasons.
OG,success in winning cups did indeed mask our generally disappointing league postion, and I sincerely hope this improves under our new wise Sage.!!

Could say the same for spurs

Do we need a discussion about the scenario he does really well, Marinakis loves him and they develop an amazing winning empire eclipsing Palace along the way?

I'd like to mentally prepare for that so that anything less is a bonus.

I didn’t like him, however I thought he improved a lot over the course of the season. If it means us not having to fork out £20m-£30m on another average midfielder then I’m ok with it.

Not really true - we have only finished 15th once before, in 2016 when we got to the cup final and Pardew rested a few (and our form after xmas was poor, similar to last season).

I think it's fair to say we have a better squad than in 2016 and we also spent heavily in Jan transfer window, unlike 2016.

We usually finish about 11th to 14th and have have jumped to 10th finishes (both on last day of season!) twice, which being pedantic is technically the top half.

With £3m a place dropping a few positions is quite costly.
