Glasner to Forest

For the older supporters...how does this rank compared with Steve coppel going to brighton? We still look back fondly of him? Maybe in a few years we will still look back fondly of glasner?
Not likely, Steve never threw the kids, supporters or the chairman under the bus!
Yes we are all grateful for the trophies, but any fondness died last January!

Not from me. Yes, OG is definitely flawed but he gave me the best times ever in 50+ years of supporting Palace. He certainly seemed to retain the loyalty of the players and won most of the fans back by the end of the season.

If I were to meet him, I would warmly shake his hand, thank him and wish him all the best for the future (except against us!).

I’m sure he’d go to press when he’s not happy with the owner

I’m sure he’d be sacked by Xmas by the owner

Why has either of them not seen each others track record I wonder arhhhh money first

Can’t imagine for one minute that Paddy McCarthy would follow OG to Forest!

However, still not sure what role he has at the club at the moment. Hopefully the new manager will recognise the importance of keeping a familiar face on his coaching team

Going to Forest is a fall back plan for him. Something went wrong with the Milan deal, and what he imagined were other suitors didn't materialise.
Like most on here I'm grateful for what he did. I bear no malice towards him but I think the writings on the wall with Marinakis, but maybe he knows that and thinks any parting will be laid at Marinakis door without damaging his stock.
As for Kamada. He's 29? and being offered Europa football this year, so unless Forest offer close to £125K a week I doubt he'll go there.
Agree with all of this 100%.

I'm still on the fence over this. I always thought I would want him to do well at his next club. I'm not so sure now. It's a move that has surprised most of the media. It's a sideways move at best for him in terms of ambition. He isn't going to achieve anymore there than he did with us, most likely will be less.

I am grateful to him for providing the moments that we all experienced. I am sure he will get a decent reception in October. One thing he does need to remember, and that is he is not one of us. Despite what he said in his speech at Selhurst in May.
I would have wished him well at any other club. I don't hold this move against him personally, but I can't wish Forest well, or by extension him so long as he is there.

As soon as he moves on from them to the next stepping stone, though, I will wish him well once again.

There are lots of Forest fans gloating thinking this is some kind of triumph over us. Well, not really, unless Glasner had been tapped up by Forest last year, otherwise we can assume Forest were not exactly top of his wish list.

Personally I don't particularly mind Glasner going to Forest and I don't wish him undue ill, but, there is still a little bit of me that would enjoy seeing it all come crashing down with him at loggerheads with the fat Greek, and an acrimonious parting of the ways in December,

But will forest fans accept his tip tap at the back looking for a gap. We accepted it because we were hardened to it from Roy, alongside somewhat good at it.

Forest fans will be used to the low block counter from the initial success of Nuno Espírito Santo. They really had a great season due to an incredibly high percentage of chances converted into goals. Not least by Wood who had an unrepeatable finishing rate. They became more expansive but results got a lot worse.

What might be a shock is that surely all the mid table and lower clubs will know that Glasnerball has no answer to playing against a low block?

Nottm Forest had a good season 2024-25 finishing 7th, however in their other 3 seasons after returning to the PL they finished 16th x2 and 17th.
Their managers since their return to the PL :
Cooper, Espirito Santo, Postecoglou, Dyche and Pereira.

Not going to wade into whether I prefer Glasner or Coppell, not going to suggest Glasner didn't achieve loads, not going to suggest Glasner isn't perfectly entitled to take whatever job he wants. I have no animosity towards him. It's a nasty coincidence he went to a team I don't particularly love right now and I hope he gets fired quickly for doing a sh*t job. More to do with the club than the person.

Anecdotally, if he had gone to Milan I'd have been rooting for him to some extent despite Milan not being my Italian club of choice.

Mr Hodgson's primary remit during both of his managerial spells at our club was to secure PL stability and avoid relegation.
Innocent question, do you think we've recruited any manager in our latest Premier League tenure with a different remit to this?

I haven't FELT like the board have particularly wanted to invest in progression.

Glasner’s obsession with winning did feel strangely refreshing. The way he wanted to win every game. No matter the competition or opposition was brilliant. Clearly played a part in helping the players believe and thus getting over the line in a final.

I hope Sage has the same mentality because winning is actually quite good!!!

Forest are far larger compared to us.

Just look at there history.

They currently have a larger capacity ground and have had plans in place to go up to close to around 55 thousand within next 10 years. (its taken palace 10 years to replace a toilet seat)

Not been in Pem this spell as long as Palace but have finished higher numerous times.

May not be a fan of the owner but he is willing to spend money.
Like hell they are.

* Thirteen consecutive years in the Premier League vs five.

* Europa League football vs nada.

* Clearly definable upward trajectory vs chaotic trajectory.

* Famously passionate, vocal fanbase vs sh*te fanbase.

* Clean FFP record and headroom vs FFP charges and no headroom.

* Squad that is used to winning things in recent times vs squad that has achieved fxck all.

* Top three club for players featuring at the World Cup vs.... do they even have 1?

Need I carry on?

This was his primary remit, accordingly he did not afford much weight to the cup competitions probably concluding that they could have negative consequences in relation to the club remaining at the 'Top table'.

Just to echo what others have said, what Glasner does now is up to him.

We can't deny the tophies he brought us and hopefully we'll build on that this season and (so far) he's been our most successful manager.

But...

The way he threw his toys out of his pram in January was unforgiveable, and Oliver Glasner was looking out for Oliver Glasner. I've no doubt he saw other managers getting released and paid off and I've also no doubt that his representatives had gone out and touted him to a number of big clubs, with probably offers on the table. He probably wanted out before his rep took a down turn with our bad run of results. Remember he blamed everyone at the club apart from Oliver Glasner in that run, besmirch everyone and jump ship with no blame seemed to be the plan. However, that plan didn't work and all he did was "sour the milk" and what with his history at other clubs doing the same thing (ranting about owners and players when the results don't go his way) it's probably put other clubs off or they've brought in other managers as we didn't release him.

So now he's probably got little choice but to go to Forest and I'll watch with interest for the inevitable fireworks that will occur if they're around the relegation zone at Christmas. As someone else mentioned, if it wasn't for our European success this year, it would have been an awful season with a poor league position, embarrassing FA Cup exit and just a half decent run in the Carabou Cup to talk about.

Despite the media and the BBC doing it's best to try and create some kind of rivalry between Palace and Forest, they're not our rivals. Sure their fans are annoying inbreds, but that's probably true of most clubs in the league and if they think they've got one over on us, then that proves the point. As for Wharton going there, can't see that happening and we'd want top money anyway, probably the same amount that they sold Anderson for.
