Interesting stuff for sure.
I'd like to think of myself as someone that appreciates the dynamics of the market. And have an understanding of the clubs financial status. And although, like many others, I get frustrated by the way Parish runs things, I do understand the rationale behind his cautious approach.
Having said that, as I wrote on another thread the other day, Palace always seem to be running to stand still. I've seen a shift away from what has usually been a short term approach with players, to bringing the average age of the squad down. And as with Andersen, we might now see Palace looking to sell players at the right time financially - although you could argue we didn't do that with Guehi last window.
I think it's a balancing act in deciding who you can lose and when plus the cost of a replacement.
So as a club we have altered the transfer policy and we have appointed a manager with a whole new ( for Palace ) way of playing, and who has a positive approach v. the negative tendencies that Roy had.
But....here we are again looking at no better than a midtable finish, being realistic. The squad is now stretched to a worrying degree by the injuries that have blighted the season. Two of the summer signings, Nketieh and Kamada have been hugely disappointing. More than ever, we need those two to step up and start delivering. And hope that Adam Wharton can get back to his best.
I'll apologise now for coming across a bit doomy and gloomy - Willo, I'm not trying to take your job away from you 😉 - but in terms of moving in the right direction, I'm just not feeling it !
Being ignored by a nobody is so underwhelming 🙄🤣 i ignored him ages ago 🤣
I didn't realise Eze is out. Not a serious injury I hope?100% and you need to be getting it right more often than not. So far Franca and Nketiah lack of impact vs fee would have dented the trajectory of the plan. But Lacroix and Sarr have made real positive impacts, Wharton was fantastic last season.
Guehi is still only 24, so whilst we may not get another offer like that, we aren't in a hurry to sell him. He'll still be a very sellable asset this and next summer.
Gauging progress is really tricky, because the league table (whilst ultimately the most important) doesn't tell everything. We thought we were going to push on this season but had a first half crippled with injuries and fitness issues. We now get closer to a full squad and lose 2 CBs (Riad/Chalobah) and Doucoure for the season. And now Eze too.
But even the above illustrates how we are progressing, no Eze on Sunday, and whilst not ideal, we have Nketiah, Kamada, Esse and Franca to choose from. Last season that option would have been Schlupp!
A mention to Chris Wood, who has silenced all the doubtersSo I'm watching Forest trounce Brighton 5-0 and proudly sitting third in the table and thinking how?
Are their players and manager that much better than ours?
And then it clicks.
Normally I switch off when the commentator gives out stats, but this time it's notable.
Most of Forest's team have featured in nearly every game and they have had a settled team for the bulk of the season.
Indeed, only the recently injured Hudson Odoi is shown as missing from the squad.
I'm not seeking to make excuses for our patchy form this season, but just imagine what could have been possible with a settled team for us (e.g Wharton, Eze, Chaloboah).
I don't think Forest will do as well next season if they encounter as many disruptions as we have had.
Having said this, a special mention to Bournemouth who have had lots of injuries but still managed to compete very effectively.
7-0 I should add!So I'm watching Forest trounce Brighton 5-0 and proudly sitting third in the table and thinking how?

Breaking financial fair play rules to spend loads of money building your squad helps as wellSo I'm watching Forest trounce Brighton 5-0 and proudly sitting third in the table and thinking how?

I made my statement clear and loud on the Match Thread, 🤣After this afternoon's performance and result I seriously think anyone who wants Glasner sacked needs their head testing. Complete performance. Solid defence, out muscled them, took our chances and it was entertaining too. We are now officailly United's bogey team.
Of course there will be disappointments ahead but currently I cant remember Palace being in a stronger position in recent years in terms of squad strength, threatening style of play, organised defence and entertainment value.
I would not be surprised to see a 'Glasner Part 3' Thread pop up in a few months but I doubt it will get too much attention next time.
COYP!! 😀 😀 😀

As we all know, the Jan market is normally for injury cover, or disaster recovery if things are going poorly. It’s not a normal window to look at squad building.Great work today I hope he gets backing in market
Good for you. I tend not to seek out any of your posts believe it or not. Not that I'm really interested on your take on it.I made my statement clear and loud on the Match Thread, 🤣
I could not disagree more. We didn't ride our luck at all. We made our own luck, controlled the game, defended so well that United had 1 shot on target and (in a game where chances were few and far between) when our chances came we took them. At no stage did United have us under the cosh. We didn't ride our luck at all.i don't think many were saying he should be sacked, but were frustrated by tactics and the football in general.
Yesterday was a great win, and we rode our luck a bit, especially when they hit the post early on.
What it reinforces IMO is that the OG formation is great for away games. We are solid at the back and can catch teams on the break. The current away run proves this.
Whether this formation is the best for home games is yet to be determined. This season with only 2 wins and very few goals it is difficult to argue that OG has got this right (yet). We have Everton and Ipswich coming up soon. Let's see how things look after those two games
Incidentally our away form puts us 6th in the Prem, our home form is 16th with only the current bottom 4 below us.
