Glasner Out

Apparently, Brennan's dad was in the away section at Larnaca and told some Palace fans that he was reassured that Glasner was staying when his boy signed, only for Oliver to tell the world he was leaving a week later. If true, this all sounds very odd.
If true what does that make Glasner, any suggestions?

Guehi was under contract until June.

As far as I'm aware, he didn't agitate for a move at any time. Unlike Mateta. He did make it clear that he wouldn't sign another contract with Palace. So I don't think he was a destabilising influence at any time - unlike his manager.

If Parish was content to risk the potential destabilising influence of a publicly want away Glasner, then I think that reduces the Guehi situation to a purely financial one.

My argument is that Guehi in the team made us stronger, which you seem to acknowledge in your first sentence, so I'm not sure why you have singled him out because he was playing during the bad run we had. Not many players emerged from that run with credit.

We will have to agree to disagree re the £20m. In any walk of life if you want to succeed then you set yourself up to give yourself the best chance. So my view is that retaining Guehi would have given us a better chance of a higher league finish and winning the Conference League. That's not a ' given ' of course, but the higher position could have financially offset some of that £20m.
Guehi may not have agitated for a move in the sense of asking to be transferred but saying you are going to run down your contract is effectively the same thing. Put the club in a position of either selling him or letting him walk away. Either way Guehi made it clear he no longer wanted to play for Palace.

Completely within his rights of course and I hold no grudge towards him for it. He wanted more money and a higher level. Who wouldn’t?

I do get a bit fed up of all the lauding of him for being ‘professional’ that went on. He said he wanted away and then did the job he’s paid to do. That’s it

How many people over they years have you seen give notice & then the work effort stops, they turn up when they have to (more or less) but other than that they are effectively just going through the motions, and that's when they are leaving within a few weeks / months, it was fairly common knowledge that Marc wouldn't sign another contract at Palace for something like 18 months & yet even with that news out there, every day he did what he had to do, performed at such a high level to remain club Captain, was surely one of the first names on the team sheet (if not the first name) & he solidified his England place -
In this world of players getting upset, sulking, downing tools , putting themselves first at the drop of a hat, for me, Marc was completely professional in what he did & the way he conducted himself, in my book that means something.

For sure you can say he was also in the team when we went on that poor run of performances, but as another poster has already said, very few emerged from that period with any credit.

I agree. He acted and played well. As I say I hold no grudge and have nothing but appreciation for his performances for us. I just think it's a bit weird he got so much praise for doing his incredibly well paid job.

He got the plaudits for being “ professional “ because his summer move was cancelled at the last minute. He got over that disappointment and continued to perform to a high standard.

He was an integral part of the team when they went on that 19 match unbeaten run. But some people only remember him being in the team when that bad run occurred - selective memories….

Same as Ferguson when Zaha went there . He went to play under him and then announced thats its his last season . We all know how the rest of the story went on
i still cant understand why he was signed, Parish knew he was going, didn't he talk to him, if Frank gets the job and wants to offload him, what price will someone pay, not 35m that's for sure

The Johnson deal reminds me of comments made around the time of the Nketiah deal, and I cant remember where they came from.

More of a case of an opportunity arose to buy 'pedigree' at a 'reasonable' price, vs not immediately needing that player.

I guess the Henderson signing was simular (but thats worked out very well).

As much as its not really worked out so far, I understand the logic. If we'd had not got Hendo when available, we would have been scrabbling around trying to replace SJ.
Fair point. All ifs & buts I know but say (God forbid) Sarr was to pick up a nasty injury. In previous years it would be a disaster. I'm hoping that this like for like signing of players is the new norm. Would certainly reduce the chances of us plummeting down the table when just one key player gets injured.

We signed him because he was spurs top scorer who Frank didnt like ,
He has played cover for munoz , He has done well in a position thats not easy to fill , yes made some errors but also he done well most of the time and was looking better ,
I still think he will come good when playing in the right position and scoring ,
But frank is not my 1st choice by a long way ,
Ireola yes would work for Johnson , its hard to say who would be best to carry on our rise , its all guess work
