Glasner Out

The point I forgot to comment on. How, Oliver, are you protecting players and lauding them when you equally said that they are no good to the point that you wanted the board to back you by replacing them? Where's the logic?

Is he not that smart?
He’s under stress so his weaknesses show. Unfortunately for him he gets emotional. Big mistake. Being a manager you have to deal with ups and downs.

Re your last paragraph, has he thrown them under the bus?

If he did, I haven't heard that.

What I did hear him say is that he wanted to protect the younger players on the bench (i.e presumably not expose them to the current predicament), that it felt unreasonable to have to rely on only 13 first team players some of whom have already had to play 35 games, and that these players and given everything on the field and weren't being adequately supported
Others will see this as an attempt by him to shift blame, but I can't disagree with the the points he made
Come on. He just said they were not good enough. Whether he thinks that or not you don’t say that in public about your players.

new to this but maybe Glasner's outburst is to do with his recent results affecting his reputation
and therefore his chances of a " better" job - a chance to blame everyone else - does he have form on this ?

That's as maybe, but not many boards like hiring an outspoken manager. I think the interview did just as much damage to his reputation.

No they don’t. Almost all the top clubs have a manager who manages and then directors of football who do all the work on transfers and negotiations.

In fact Man Utd and Chelsea (big clubs if not ‘top clubs’) just made it very clear who runs the show on transfers and it ain’t the manager
Arsenal, Liverpool, and Man City all have directors who work with the manager on all transfers. They have a number of bodies involved and the manager is always part of the process.

I genuinely didn't hear him say that, but I'm not saying you're making it up
For what it's worth, if he did say that and was referring to players on the bench, I agree with him
He shouldn't say it in public though.

The broader point Glasner was making was why couldn't the club wait another week or so until other players were back?
City still would have wanted Guehi.

Sure, Glasner has made mistakes and has to bear some responsibility for our current poor run.
But he can't be expected to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.

Yesterday yet again we fielded a weak bench this time comprising two keepers, several untried youngsters and a couple of hastily patched up players and a recalled loan player.
This after 14 years in the Premier League.
Glasner is no more to blame for this when he was when we were thrashed at home by Fulham and we fielded a midfield of Guehi and a debuting Devenny.
Every team we face has a stronger bench than us and we knew we faced a 60 plus game season when we knew we were in Europe.
Is he to blame for us having a weaker squad now than when he joined ?

I'm not seeking to change anybody's opinion, but I think criticism of him should at least be fair and have some balance.

Because if he picks up an injury Crystal Palace lose £20m. Pretty simple explanation. And given the minutes Marc has played he was probably due one. And perhaps Marc didn't want to miss his chance if he got an injury and said as much?

This situation happens all the time. Players dropped because they have a move lined up. For Glasner to say it has never happened before in his knowledge is totally ridiculous and disingenuous. Just like he forgot FFP and PSR existed. Or that we'd just broken our transfer record on a player he sanctioned.

I expect so, but Parish’s position is, ‘Well resign then.’ It looks like Glasner won’t because of millions of pounds at stake. Parish is too smart to be manipulated and the Americans are very hard business people too. At the moment Parish holds power. Glasner needs to perform before the season ends or he won’t be as attractive anymore. If he continues to not get a single point then things are going to get interesting and painful.

Two reasons why not to sack Glasner.
1. Cost us money to pay off his contract - better spent towards Guehi replacement
2. Have we got a new manager already lined up?

However, keeping him on might be bad for an already shattered morale after Macclesfield
I cant see how. The players are playing for him. They love him.

His team on a bad run of form.
Pent-up frustration regarding the 'Windows'.
Angered that he was told the day before that his captain was unavailable.
His team had just been defeated to make it no wins in 10 games
Interviewed when emotions running high.
Perhaps in the 'Cold light of day' he regrets making such statements.

Where is the evidence that OG isn’t involved in transfers? Do you think Lacroix and Kamada would have joined without OG recommending them? Apparently him talking to Johnson was part of the process in Johnson joining us for a club record fee.

Do you think any Premier League club would involve their manager in negotiating terms with a buying club when they are selling a player?

So he was helpless and couldn’t do anything? Taking out Sarr and Munoz means we can’t compete with Macclesfield? In that case we should definitely get rid of him as clearly the manager has no impact. Might as well save ourselves £4m a year.

As I say I didn’t expect this period to be easy but let’s not pretend OG is blameless here either from what we are seeing on the pitch or off it.
It’s not all about Macclesfield. We would be in this situation regardless of that one game.

Would another manager be able to keep the form up from the first 1/3 of the season with a barebones squad? Or even have achieved it in the first place? Doubtful. That’s where he earns his £4m.

I would be just as worried if he has no concerns about the situation he has been put in. It’s a natural response. He could word himself better and more calmly, that’s obviously the demeanor he has and he is an emotional guy, that has it’s advantages too in this game.

Didn't stop Semenyo playing until the last minute for Bournemouth and indeed scoring the winner and giving a MOM performance in his last game.
Why is it ok for Semenyo but not for Guehi?
Furthermore, if clubs routinely left out players due to move during transfer windows it would be a very strange set of affairs.

Yes I imagine if he could do that interview again now he would not have said what he did. I often think its a bit unfair to shove a mic in a manager,s face 5 minutes after a defeat. How do we all expect them to react? they're human

If we finish the season four places lower without Marc than we would with him, we still lose that money, and the fee only replaces prize money lost. Any more places and it amounts to a loss. Plus the effect on the European competition which again, is money lost.

No. I expected our form to dip as I’ve said several times. There is a difference between a dip and a complete collapse though. We’ve got two points from 7 games. Put that form over a season and we would pick up 11 points. Do I think another manager could do better than that with the currently available players? Yes
