Glasner Out

Does anybody else think ot would have been a good idea to have bought a centre back in to replace Guehi before selling him or is Glasner wrong about this too?

As he points out , he only knew the Guehi would be unavailable at 10.30am on Friday , and he says 'I'm sure negotiations didn't start at 10am.'

I know people dislike Glasner, but is this a reasonable way for a serious football club to operate.
And no, before anybody suggests we have Riad and Canvot, they are as adequate as replacements for Guehi as Devenny is for Munoz.

This might have been said already, but I can't bring myself to read all the pages of rants in this thread so apologies if it has, but haven't we spent more on players since Glasner arrived than what we got from selling them?

Perhaps I'm looking at this from too simplistic a cash flow basis, but we brought in £63.8 million from sales in the summer:
  • Eze - £59.6 million
  • Eduoard - £3.2 million
  • Ebiowei - £1 million

and we brought in:
  • Benetiz - £0
  • Sosa - £3 million
  • Canvot - £17.5 million
  • Pino - £26 million
  • Johnson - £35 million

which is £81.5 million, so we spent £21.9 million more that what we brought in from selling players.

So what exactly is Glasner expecting here? For a club of our size and taking into account FFP, I would say that we have invested? Granted the quality of those players aren't an exact match, but that's one first team player out and five players in that could start or be on the bench. We can't replace outgoing players like for like, we simply don't have the funds to do that. Also, this is our model, we bring in young players, build them up and sell them on, there's no way he couldn't have known that!

We're also investing in a new stand and having to borrow to do that, so not like player sales are financing that?

It's disingenuous when you mention Johnson in your tally as the fallout happened over summer transfers where the net spend was zero. I'm sorry but that is not good enough in a European season irrespective of the new stand - which is being financed from an external loan and was originally covered by the US investment.

In an ideal world, yep. Who would you bring in as a replacement for Guehi?

My first thoughts when I was watching his interview last night, was it’s a shame he couldn’t just knuckle down, get on with it and ride out the rough patch instead of spouting off like that and then walk away with his head held high in the summer.
This has definitely soured his time with us, as you say, what did he expect? he must’ve known when he took over we’re a small club in an old small ground that eventually has to sell its best players. It’s not like we’re throwing these players out of the door, they’re ambitious as well and want to move on to bigger clubs.
We all know our squad was going to struggle this season and we needed reinforcements last summer but obviously finances wouldn’t allow it and personally I trust the man who was here 15 years before and will still be here long after Ollie has gone

Is there any chance Man U will employ him after their Amorim experience. I know we don’t care but from OG’s perspective why do that if Man U are on your radar.Perhaps the answer is they are not.
Said he’s going at the end of season. Fine. Leave it at that. Guess he’ll be gone by 5pm tomorrow.
Amorim said he was going in 18 months. He was out a couple of days later.

Utd have had Mourinho “that is football heritage”, Rangnick “throw it all in the bin, sell the entire team and start over”, and Amorim “I am not a head coach”. Having one live wire doesn’t seem to stop them from getting another one. Maybe they turned RR and RA into live wires tbf. Jose was always one.

José is a good example actually. We knew what we were getting with Oli from his time in Germany, as others have said repeatedly. Presumably Steve knew that then. Was it a calculation that the good times are worth the bad?

We only have OG’s word he didn’t know Guehi was unavailable until 10.30. Even if that is true the whole world and his dog knew Guehi was off to City so OG should have been planning for life without him. It’s not ideal to lose a player the day before a match but what happens when a player gets injured or ill? I don’t buy there isn’t a plan B and if there isn’t then OG isn’t doing his job.

I’d give this all more credence if yesterday was a one off in terms of performance but it isn’t. We haven’t won in ten games. We had Guehi vs Macclesfield and we’re still second best. We’ve had Guehi through all the games we’ve been awful at set pieces from.

We are the worst team in the division right now. That’s not due to selling Guehi and the manager needs to take some responsibility for how we are performing rather than blaming everyone else.

Nah I don't think so, in fact if anything I think it shows that we were supporting bringing in people that he wanted even though he said he was leaving. As I recall Johnstone only agreed to come here after talking to Glasner, so no doubt he was keen to bring him in.

Bewildered.

It only makes sense that the overwhelming reaction to Glasner's post match interviews was that he wanted out immediately with his contract paid up by being sacked. Shearer and Rooney intimated the same on MOTD.

And if that is what he wants the board will do the opposite.

I await developments.

If Glasner backtracks my guess is there is a risk he was in breach of his contract with his damaging comments.

Yup, and he will be reminded as such on the obligations. And of course when players return he will need to getting the side back to winning or he will destroy his CV. Parish is going to play him, Glasner doesn't know who he's dealing with. Also, he whinged about his bench, but Sunderland only used 2 subs themselves - a left back and a 20 year old forward. Hardly the players who are going to finish you off.

I have sympathy to a point but it's not like CPFC didn't spend any money, we did. The truth is that there aren't players like Olise, Eze and Guehi hanging around everywhere waiting to be picked up by us, it's not possible to replace them like for like. We can only have a go and hope we get it right.

So we picked up a few, let's have a look.

Pinot - Spanish international. Glasner plays him constantly but he's lightweight and that's on display
Uche - 22 years old, has hardly played and has played out of position, most games a late sub. I think the lad has loads more in him, and he's outscored Pino per minute significantly, his last goal very classy indeed.
Esse - A kid. Great feet, we know he's not been developed by Glasner, quite the opposite.
Canvot - He gets some stick but he can play, and he's very young
Sosa - IMO he's not good enough.
Benitez - He's a great backup. Glasner has 2 top drawer keepers.

Johnson - record signing.

I also think there are some promising kids there, Kaden Rodney and Drakes-Thomas have been impressive.

He also relies on Devenney who is a worker but not exactly a player we all think is going to turn a game. Devenney is garbage on the right imvho. We have several out and due to return including Daichi "Teachers Pet" Kamada.

I ain't that worried. I'm more bothered about winning the Conference League.

We did. Chadi Riad was bought in anticipation that Guehi would not sign a new contract. It’s only unfortunate that he was injured for so long. The Club may well have taken the view that after the outing with the U21s he would soon be back to full fitness. In addition after Canvot’s MOTM performance (fans vote) Guehi’s importance to the squad diminished and £20m plus add-ons would help going forward.

What I also think has not helped is OGs insistence with chasing all four competitors with the same group of first team players. Last season Liverpool with their large resources decided to prioritise the League and play a mainly reserve/junior side in the FA Cup against Plymouth. They lost 1-0 but became champions.

Glasner should stay away from interviews after getting beaten. It’s not the first tantrum he’s thrown. He’s been economical with the truth all season. “We’ll discuss my contract situation in January” “I told Steve in October I was leaving””It’s got nothing to do with lack of signings” “ They’ve failed to back me”.
He’s been a great coach but he’s petulant and moody, always has been and always will be. He hates to lose but can’t accept responsibility when he does.

My sense is that he was doing an Amorin/Maresca yesterday and expects to be sacked tomorrow. If the latest rumours are true that Parish intends keeping him then good for him. He doesn’t get to drop us in the sh*t then f*ck off. No subs yesterday was typical Glasner. Parish may have made mistakes in terms of sales and signings but Glasner had failed to do his job in managing the squad and fixtures. I don’t buy the BS about speaking out to protect his players. The only person he was protecting was Oliver Glasner.

Parish should press on with identifying his replacement and when he does, if that man is free to take over before the end of the season thank Glasner for his contribution and send him on his way. If not keep him until the end of the season. Don’t be pushed into sacking him and appointing an interim coach til the summer.

That's farcical really isn't it? What if Guehi had injured himself in the warm up? Or suddenly come down with the flu? Would he be saying the same thing there? Nah, you'd have some sort of plan B and get on with it. So disapointing.
That wouldn’t be self-inflicted.

Glasner knew he was on his way and I suspect that he knew that if someone offered X then it was a done deal.
Olise wanted to leave, Guehi wanted to leave, Eze wanted to leave and when that happens you have to get the highest price that you can.
Who was responsible for the summer buys?
If Glasner wanted them, then his judgement is poor and so he needs some of the blame.
He has been amazing for us and then ruined it in a 5 minute diatribe and I hope he leaves tomorrow.
He has dissed the players, failed to even try and integrate the new players, and been rigid in his system regardless of the circumstances.
I thank him for the FA Cup - a moment in my long time of supporting Palace that I will never forget - but he is not bigger than CPFC - end of!

I think as they say at funerals , This is a time for reflection rather than further controversy and disruption .
4 weeks from now fans will wonder what the fuss was all about .
Can still achieve our highest Premiership finish and Win the Conference cup , Plenty to play for .
