Oddly enough I was thinking this morning before I saw this article how would OG feel with Klopp breathing down his neck. Klopp is too young to be the elder statesman I suspect most managers would see him as a threat.

So let's hope that Palace give OG what he wants.

However it has been reported that his friends say he likes the freedom to make decisions at Palace which he will not get at RB unless they back down on their strict rules. There is no job security there either with RB on their eleventh Coach (manager) in the past ten years. The speculation is probably more “old bull” rather than Red Bull.

In the Newcastle pre-match presser he was quite clear that he got the tactics wrong in the second half and should never have taken JPM off for the reasons stated in the article you shared.

As you say he's class and I very much hope we can persuade him to extend his contract.

Thomas Frank has stayed at Brentford for ages. So, not all proven managers need go up to a football Giant. Sometimes the Spurs/ManUre's etc are little more than a poisoned chalice. A manager could do another 5 years at a medium sized club or 6 months at a toxic behemoth.

Agreed, but as the “Is Glasner the problem?” thread showed when we had a run of bad results at the start of the season, even our more fickle comrades saw sense and got on board.

What OG has achieved in the 14 months or so months since his arrival has been spectacular, I don’t think anyone would have foretold the run we put together at the end of last season, and then again through the middle 1/2 of this season. With a squad as thin as ours, it’s inevitable that we would struggle when a couple of suspensions coincided with a few injuries. It’s a shame that didn’t happen prior to the international break as they would have had time to process the situation and plan correctly.
Hopefully this is just a blip and isn’t the start of another 6-10 game run of poor results, either way, OG has my full and unwavering throughout and I’m pretty sure the players feel the same way.

Agreed. Look at Moyes. Could have stayed at Everton {for Fergie/Wenger lengths of time} maybe won them a cup and been an all time legend.

Of the big clubs, only us {AFC}, the new monied City and the Scousers will give their managers time. And none of those have vacancies. ManU/Sperz/Chavs are all complete messes and the rest of the PL has no more potential than you lot.

{And if they ever extend the Overground across south London, you could be bigger than pre-Abrahamovic Chelsea.}

Potter should have stayed at Brighton, for example. Owned by betting gurus who work out the stats on underpriced players instead of going to the Chavs with a Yank owner who asked why he didn't try a 4-4-3 system.

When I take off my Arsenal hat and try to think like a neutral, I think the EPL needs to worry that all the promoted sides are going down. We don't want 17 teams with 3 div 2 sides each year. This needs to be looked at even if money for the Championship and parachute payments come out of Arse and Palace pockets.*

But the quid pro quo is that it's great that teams like Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, Fulham etc are proper Prem teams {who unfortunately now take points of us lot} and could, if the stars align with big teams playing badly/in transition, good manager, good signings and good yoof players coming through, start to think about Europe.

Uefa also needs to think. They've already distorted domestic football since the CL changed everything. Have up to 5 GB/Italian/Spanish teams in the Europa Conference. Brighton are 9th, AC Milan are 9th, Real Sociedad are 10th. I'd watch that group stage on the Swiss system.

I remember Wenger's first season in the Europa League. He played the 2nd XI every game and beat them all comfortably. Palace vs AC in the Conference League playing full on cos that's a route to the Europa would sell far more telly subs.

And if we get that, why would a manager at a top 14 EPL side want to go?

It's better we have a 3 division Euro super-league like that, with the top 10 teams in all the big leagues involved than that abomination my club sadly agreed to go along with just to make money.

Then have a Euro Div 4 for the clubs we used to beat in Europa or the Hammers beat last year. FC Uncle from Bulgaria would much rather be in Euro Div 4 where they have a chance than Euro Div 2/3 where they get hammered in the group stages by big club's B-teams.

Whether Palace win the FA Cup or not, it is clear they have the core of an extremely good team, and one that Parish is going to have to work very hard to keep together.
We all saw what happened after 1990, and Parish needs to convince the Manager , then the players, that they can achieve their ambitions (financial and sporting) at Crystal Palace FC.
