Fulham vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Canvot and Khalaili looking like giving away a goal all the time. Disasi looks good. We have to evolve.
I was surprised how poor Khalaili was today considering he’s looked decent before today, he seemed reluctant to get forward, a few times someone was looking for him to motor forward ala Munoz, but It didn’t happen, but still early days for the newbies

Solid result and well done to all the players. How Mitchell isn't in the England frame is a mystery. Whilst O Reilly might be higher in the pecking order Mitchell must at least be in the frame. Usual nonsense being in a more exposed team. It is this mentality that has prevented England as a team developing. Unfortunately under Tuchel, being an ex Chelski manager I can't see this attitude changing. Defence might be shaky but if they can contribute 3 goals a game I will take that. In terms of Sarr. If he wasn't injured we need to chuck him into the fray as soon as possible, which is only the way to know "where his head is". You cannot fake a solid shift on the pitch. If he doesn't show this get rid imho. Frankly in the PL there is too much pampering around the players compared to other professions.

I would just play a back 4
Halaili Disasu Tomasura Mitchell
Only one of them plays for us, but I expect you mean
Khalaili, Disasi, Tomiyasu Mitchell

I prefer a back 4 but it changes everything about where your width comes from so we will have to wait and see if Sage has any plans to play that way.

I am sure everyone understood but thank you. Bottom line is we can’t do chaotic games like this for the rest of the season. However good it was to win this one.

It’s great to get a win BUT let’s not kid ourselves that we weren’t lucky today. I don’t want to piss on anyone’s chips but if we are as open as that against the top teams we’re going to get battered in plenty of games. The press was non existent and a better team than Fulham would have caned us. IMO we were crying out for 442 today….

We'll get better. Its an evolution in style. Luckily we have a little patch of easier games to try to hone things.

Pisssy chips or not, its 100% more entertaining than under Mr low block

Henderson and Mitchell joint MOTM.

Timber great for a debut. Pino and Kamada worked well further up and look creative. Think that’s Kamada future for us - which is worrying for Guessand and McNeill - not sure what role they play now.

Our build out looks super shakey. We can’t hit the full back every time and box them in - it’s way too easy to defend. Needs more work.

Overall happy with the win, but not getting carried away as Henderson won us those points.

I hate to s*** on a win but that defence is absolutely dire. Richards was terrible in the first half, improved slightly in the 2nd and Canvot needs a defensive coach to himself, he is shockingly bad at defending. I was starting to wonder if he'd had a bet on the game. I can see us letting 7 or 8 in against one of the top teams. Relief to get our first 3 points though.

I'd feel a bit more confident at present with the experienced Tomiyasu included in defence ( if fit) instead of either Richards or Canvot.
He's dogged, reads the game well and would be less prone to leaving gaps which have been all too evident this season.

At present Richards seems to struggle without Lacroix/Guehi who he was used to be playing with for a couple of seasons.
I'm sure in time he'll get his form back.

Canvot is still learning the game and I don't think he should be a guaranteed first team starter for all his undoubted potential.

Fantastic 3pts... 'Points over performance' has never been truer than today's game.

Obviously the back 5 have barely played with each other but at times our press was so, so bad. The number of times Mitchell arrived late and an easy ball was played passed him, where an equally late Canvot would be arriving only to then leave caverns of space behind him. It happened so often and was painful to watch. I'm not particularly blaming those two, as pressing is a coordinated team effort but it was so easy for Fulham to play through and nearly led to our downfall numerous times.

Another thing we often do when we press is over commit to intercept the ball, when we miss our midfield gets completely bypassed. The best teams apply the pressure on the opposition but don't dive in, they force a bad pass or commit the foul - but we are often not able to do either.

In the post match interview Sage said that there needs to be huge improvements in defence which is good as there's plenty to work on!

To me it still looks like the current formation actually exposes our players weaknesses rather than play to their strengths I.e the 2 man midfield overstretches our two not very mobile CMs, 3 at the back doesn't increase solidity at the back and hands over midfield control to the opposition.

...but we won. Despite the negative comments I actually thought Khailili did well for his second start, looked a bit shaky defensively, but who didn't, and he showed his threats going forwards.

Great for Mitchell to get his goals although Bobb did give him one of the toughest afternoons I've seen him have for a while.

Disasi got some good last ditch blocks in.

Timber showed promise.

Hendo with some big saves.

Really pleased for Pierre to get his first win on the board and refreshing to see substitutes used!

Lovely (if I'm being honest quite lucky) 3points... I'd be fuming if I was a Fulham fan.
