I don't think anyone has yet mentioned the delights of spotted dick and custard.
In a similar vein my mum used to make a steamed suet pudding with chopped dates which was a favourite. Unfortunately Mrs POG doesn't like it so that little pleasure has passed me by.

My nan used to go through huge amounts of suet - either steak & kidney or spotted dick or treacle/jam puddings, wrapped in a tea towel and cooked to perfection. Real winter fuel and served up with her saying, "That'll glue your ribs together".
Happy days which I miss.
