Farage says he's 'never directly racially abused anybody' after school racism claims

The types you mention are not canvassing to be the next Prime Minister different standards must apply it must be someone beyond reproach. Prime Ministers have resigned for less. Mac Millan he resigned because one of his Minister had a leg over,Boris went because unlike George Washington he couldn't tell the truth. I speak to a lot of people of all types and Farage's standing has taken a real blow. It isn't possible to elect someone so dodgy.

Starmer was elected so anything is possible !

So that is the excuse that other racists were about?
Not at all. It’s highlighting that times were very different and these things were mainstream and not for a moment considered or intended to be racist or offensive.

We had; It ain’t half hot Mum, On the buses, Upstairs Downstairs, Love thy Neighbour, Robertsons Marmalade and Golly Wogs. The Black & White Minstrel Show, Chalky White, Little Black Sambo children’s books…even recently we had Little Britain & Come fly with me.

NONE of it considered or intended to be racist, offensive or inappropriate at the time, in fact the opposite as much of it was hugely popular and considered very good and funny entertainment.

Attitudes have changed, times have changed but the context in which those things mentioned above were written and set has not changed. We can’t rewrite history and nor should we!

Yes, I was thinking all the broadcasters, comedians, actors, journalists and press owners would need to be arrested. I say prosecute Farage and every other person who was around in the 70s as we may as well get to the bottom of this. f*** it, we can all get done. We may as well. I admit to recreating WW2 in the playground at school. At least until it was replaced by Star Wars. Someone had to play the Germans. I don't think it was necessarily me but it might have been. I could just turn myself in.

I sang eni meni miny mo with the original words.

Arrest me.

Yes, what times they were.

Skinheads were a popular group in my youth and it was all talk of, for instance, 'N**** - lovers' for girls who went out with black men, 'let's go P*** - bashing' or 'let's go qu***-bashing'

For those guys it was definitely considered and intended to be racist. For 'P**- bashing' and 'Q****-bashing' they did.

That's not rewriting history, PB, just reporting it.

Its a difficult subject but at that time you could get beaten senseless for supporting the wrong football club, Teds chased Punks, Greasers chased anybody. Skinheads tended to be quite violent whether it was racist inspired or not.

I was not a skinhead myself but I was surrounded by them, many being members of 'The Shed' at Chelsea.

How did I hear it? It was common talk, all over. I always thought it was strange, given the skinhead love of ska, bluebeat and reggae.

I'm not sure anyone could deny this, it is common knowledge even for those who didn't live through the era.

Just as today, the 70s had it's problems with violent, dangerous and anti-social groups.
Today they are a different political/religious flavour.
But violent, dangerous and anti-social behaviour is the common denominator. It needs to be stamped out now, just as it was eventually stamped out back then.

You've a vivid imagination. Useful if you teach Lit I guess.
