"Never Seen"

I am a film buff and if you showed me a list of 100 greatest movies I will have seen most of them. However there are certain movies which I have never got around to even though they have been on TV countless times.

Gone With The Wind
Sound of Music
Most of the Marvel Universe films

I know lots of people who have never watched Star Wars. This is not a list of movies you hate but ones you think I really aught to watch someday.

Have at it.

I’m led to believe the Gone With The Wind has never been shown on mainstream TV, so maybe one reason you haven’t see that one. For the record neither have I.

I'll ask Grok to compile a list.

One of the most respected lists of the 100 greatest movies of all time is the American Film Institute's (AFI) "100 Years...100 Movies," first published in 1998 and updated in 2007. AFI, a leading nonprofit dedicated to preserving and promoting American film heritage, compiled this list based on input from film artists, critics, and historians, focusing on cultural and artistic impact within American cinema. It's widely regarded as an authoritative benchmark for cinematic excellence. Below is the 2007 edition (the most recent official update), ranked from 1 to 100.

many old movies are feted as Epic because there were so few movies back then - some of the so called 'great movies' are shyte. A bit like books before Gutenberg's Printing Press.

I started to compile a list and realised there are so many old movies I haven't seen.

So I'll ask Grok to do a list of movies since 1970:

Quite a lot I haven't seen.....Can't say I have much desire to other than a couple.

Among others:
Citizen Kane. Not sure why apart from it's reputation being off-putting.
The Wizard of Oz. Seen about 10 minutes of it and just didn't like it.
Modern(ish) horror films - it's concerning that people want to watch Saw/Hostel type things.

Three quarters watchable.Kansas is suggested as a destination.

Most of the Harry Potter films……I say most of them, because I got half way through the first one and realised I couldn’t stand anymore

Broke back mountain…….hay ho

None of the ‘Saw’ films, I like a good horror, but pointless gore and bloodfests are not for me

There's loads of sex in both Hostel films. Although there could be more films now. If that changes your mind. None in Saw though. Some of Saw is cleverer than you might think. But it obviously gets stupid.

when the number of spinoffs, prequels and sequels gets ridiculous.....its time to bin the Whole Title.

Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings
Star Trek

Star Wars
Terminator ........the last few Movies were utter woke tripe, and the TV series was a snore.
Even Alien is getting a bit tired.
Exorcist

even Hannibal Lector got a bit tired and did a boring tv series.

-----------------------------------

as i am getting old and grumpy, much fiction bores me. Consequently many drama-biographies are more tolerable cos you know the fecker really did exist.

good biographies

Patton....as mentioned above
Downfall......hitler
Hitler.........Robert Carlyle
Stalin........Robert Duvall.......we are long overdue a new movie about the man of Steel
Che Guevara
Narcos....Pablo Escobar
Oppenheimer......cillian murphy

Rome.......Ciaran Hinds as Caesar
Nixon..........Anthony Hopkins
the two Popes........ditto

Frost/Nixon......michael Sheen
Schindlers List
Troy
Pierrepoint......timothy Spall

SHYTE BIOGRAPHIES

freddy mercury
Gary Oldman as Churchill....good acting, shyte script.
Elton John........a boring coke-head

the recent BBC bio of Mussolini.........boring
Alexander the Great......colin Farrell........boring, apart from Val Kilmer who was good.
Napoleon...........joaquin phoenix......... not great.

what other Biographies do you have an opinion on ?

To be honest the presence of sex scenes stirs little emotion other than nostalgia in these days when an early night is for no other reason than that I'm cream crackered after a hard bout of lazing around.
Or a St. Eduoard's Day to coin a phrase.

Which was the Hannibal film where he left Ray Liotta with a head like an opened boiled egg? That one jumped the shark by a long way.

I have a much shorter span of attention these days. The thought of sitting through 90 minutes of a film, without a toilet break, there is a distinct possibility with a warm fire going, I'd be asleep before 30 minutes was up.

Haven't bothered with :

Any Star Wars after Return of the Jedi
Any marvel films
Bridget Jones
Anything with Hugh Grant
Any mainstream film since 2000.
