Ezes pen

On a serious note, Ray Stewart ex West Ham is the best penalty taker I’ve ever seen, never missed, no sodding about, he just hit it as hard as humanly possible, scored about 60 odd in his career I think
Between him and Matt Le Tissier who scored 47 of 48. Hoddle was pretty good too.
Ray Stewart's penalties were a threat to the goalkeeper who would've been carried in with the ball if he'd got anywhere near it.

That’s why all this mucking about with a hop skip and a jump and then a gentle little place of the ball is bollox, if the keeper dives the right way he saves it, giving it a good old thump, there’s a chance even if the keeper gets something on it, it could go straight through him and still end up in the net just through the sheer power the balls struck

Alan Shearer always put his laces through it and towards the middle, you can see the reasoning with that. The keeper will more often than not would go left or right, but seldom do they stay central.

To be honest Eze hasn’t developed as a player in any respect since he went to Arsenal. Maybe going to your boyhood club isn’t always the smart move. The set pieces coach hasn’t taught him how to take a penalty and when he comes on as sub he wanders around midfield playing the odd easy pass. I’m surprised he got into the England squad. When they were at Palace he and Olise were on a par. There’s no comparison now. Olise is a ballon d’or candidate while Eze is a bench warmer. Sad to see.

When we had Eze and Olise I felt Eze was the slightly better player but had fulfilled his potential, whereas Olise was clearly going to improve. I think that's been proven now.

Of course we had two of the best penalty takers in the EPL. Luka Milivojevic scored 22 penalties (transfermarkt) of his 29 goals for us in the League. 10 were scored in one season putting him ahead of the likes of Shearer and Rooney and just behind record breaker Andy Johnson with 11. They could teach Eze a thing or two. But who cares? He’s Arsenal now.

I think Eze has gone more central and is more of a team player. He loses some of his creativity, however. But it's clear that Arteta does not trust him to do the defensive work - which adds a burden on teammates. He also will not be taking penalties anymore.

I can't figure out if Eze is a bit dim, arrogant or just ill-advised, but to do the same failed procedure again and again and not realise that just maybe a change in approach is in order. Particularly when he is accurate from a deadball situation just outside the box. Very odd indeed. I was surprised to see Tuchel name him in the England squad for the World Cup, and the last thing England need is Eze taking a penalty.
