Everton vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Its the first game, we never get anything at Everton, our bogey team. Judge Sage after 6 games.

Glasners Forest lost at home to Leeds is the bright spot of the day.
Fair point, you know as fans any
Manager or player is as good as his last game though
But I did see enough in the first half to think we can improve, we looked better than I thought going forward without Sarr, and I know it’s a big if, but if mateta had put a chance away, goals chance games as the saying goes

I believe quite a few have already formed a judgement even before today's defeat.
The narrative I have heard is that Sage's career has seen him as a Youth Coach, a scout, an Assistant manager and that his First Team management is limited in terms of longevity. Someone opined that one stand-out season in France does not prepare one for the demands of the PL.
Some others were critical of the club in terms of recruitment etc and that the challenge Sage faces is somewhat gargantuan.
It doesn’t help that Sage has a weaker squad than Glasner had. Our starting 11 without Sarr today, let alone our 2 centre backs for a big part of last season now gone is a huge loss for Sage :-(

It looked really bad for Chadi Riadi stretchered off in tears, hope it is not as serious as it looks.

Selling Maxence Lacroix made no sense to me, the season starts with no replacement and now this.

😎

Losing the most successful manager in our history would inevitably lead to some players wanting to cash in their value on the back of our best season. I believe the transfer window should close before a ball is kicked to allow teams to assemble a team for the season. Without this Mr Sage has to wait to see who really wants to stay/go. We cannot judge this man until the transfer window closes. I think he is a good manager and he will come good. We are yet to discover his best starting eleven. It certainly should not include Chadi Riad. We have the makings of a strong team, let Mr Sage maximise their abilities.

A refreshingly honest post match interview from Sage.
He criticised the easy concession of the ball when not under pressure, said the subs didn't introduce the 'dynamism' he wanted, and opined that that he felt the players gave up when at 2-0 the game wasn't over.

I don't think the players are going to like this!

The task has been handed to Sage for a complete rebuild. He's sorting the wheat from the chaff.

You can see by his reaction to the match in progress that he is out of his depth, he wont even be here in October, i predict a mass of supports will have retained there blinkers from last season.

We’re not going to have ANOTHER season of you just moaning about the manager being clueless & not knowing what he’s doing are we?

Players aren't paid what they're paid to have their bellies rubbed. Good for him.

Tend to agree. I feel like our pre-season has unfortunately lapsed into the season. I'm not angry with anyone about it but I think August and September are just going to have to be difficult.

With respect, I seem to recall that you and your chums formed a similar judgement down your local,of OG, ,who went on to become our most successful Manager ever.
