England team

What we must remember is that Andorra, with another 30,000 or so would be nearly as big as Crawley.

England are doing the same thing again and again. Risk free, slow, sideways football.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting it to work.

If they'd upped the tempo and ran at them, would it matter if they lost possession a few times? It would
encourage them to open up from the packed defence that has shown to blunt Guardiola style tactics.

If nothing else it would be a bit more entertaining for the punters.
If England won anything playing like that it would be a bad day for football.
Rashford did that quite a lot but lost possession every time. Better teams than Andorra will adopt the same approach but offer a lot more on the counter-attack. The papers were bigging up Anderson but there didn't seem much end-product and I can't recall the full-backs overlapping much. Myles-Skelly is not the answer. Eze had a quiet game but he was the only player finding space in the box. 4 shots, 2 of which were well blocked with the goalie beaten. He could easily have been the hero

I haven't seen the game, but watching the previous games the result and comments on the performance doesn't come as any surprise.

1. squad and team selections are odd.
2. not sure the players that are in squad and team are that interested. With a exception of a few.
3. The only real test we have had was Senegal, and we were thoroughly and comprehensively out played.

Good job Tuchel was only given a 2 year contract. At this rate his tenure will be over come the end of the group stage at the world cup.

Trouble is, no idea who the answer would be.

Needs to be a motivator
Needs to be adaptable
Needs to have experience of how to win, especially big games against top teams.

Is there anyone around like that ?

Just spotted this

What's it got to do with England? bear with me.

Depay is now the leading goalscorer for Holland. Seriously the guy is a decent goal scorer no more than that. What this tells us is just how poor Holland are with their crop of strikers if he is part of their team. When you think of all the world class strikers they have had in the past the reason he has outscored them is, as soon as they peaked there was another great to take their place.

Like Depay, Kane is our leading scorer but for me he no longer does enough for the team to warrant being first choice striker. However just like Holland there is a lack of an obvious replacement so we are stuck with Kane until there is.

I see what you're getting at, but surely it's because there are far more rubbish teams in the tournaments and qualifiers these days, since they expanded the tournaments?

Depay's record for Holland is almost identical to Van Persie, for example (Depay 104 caps, 52 goals / Van Persie 102 caps, 50 goals).

Depay made his debut in 2013 and is still playing, meaning 12 years and counting in the national team.
Van Persie made his debut in 2005 and played his last game in 2017, so also 12 years in the national team.

I also just can't get onboard with putting Kane and Depay in the same bracket - Kane is still one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe at club level, who's scored 20+ a season for over a decade. Depay has never been in that conversation.

Kane's international record is also far better (73 in 108 compared with 52 in 104).

I think players scoring at a higher rate is far more to do with the quality of opposition these days.

After watching our two dire fixtures against Frederikstad, I'd hope that would give some perspective as to how hard these fixtures are to make entertaining - it's incredibly difficult to look good against a team who have no interest in leaving their own box.
