El Hadji Diouf

I still care, but 100% agree on value.

If he'd been playing in the Italian, Spanish German league it would be an easier transition, but in the Czech league there is no knowing if he's able to make that step up.

For reference Munoz, who was an experienced international, and often regarded as one of the best in the league cost €8 million.
We were lucky with Munoz in that it was an exceptionally quiet window. There is also a demand for LWB's now e,g Man U and Liverpool and I think it is now or never if we are going to get him. I only saw him in the last Europa outing but he hit more accurate long balls in the 55 minutes I watched than I've seen Mitchell achieve in his whole career. We should have got him Day 1 before Spurs helped Slavia Prague's finances by signing Kinsky off them
With Riad and Doucoure down , and Guehi, and potentially Mateta/Eze going in the summer, we need to be stocking up whenever we can. Diouf is a big lad so he might also be cover for LCB

This make things more difficult as we may feel that we need to get in CB cover, so will be less keen to pay over the odds for a LB

Being reported on that x thingy from Alan Nixon that Palace have had a second bid of £14.3m rejected. I note that SP play on thurs in the Europa League, home v Malmo, be interesting to see if he's in the squad.
Hopefully, when offering £14.5m SP and DF can mention the additional benefit of being seen in the Sainsbury's Car Park.

I don't think you can make assumptions if he is not in the Europa League squad. They are already out of the competition so may rest players for their league challenge. If he does play we can probably take it that he is going nowhere

Parish is so tight just pay the money and back the manager i really cant see this happening at all cos parish always haggles over a couple of million but we still have a week left and i would be stunned if rhis transfer gets done at all

At this point, let's just move on. Slavia clearly just sees a Prem club and thinks they can rip us off. Dude may be the future, but not going to start right away and I would prefer us to spend that money in other areas of need.

Piss on it.

Just like most clubs in the lower (and better) leagues in Europe do. Wolfsburg didn't initially expect the price we paid for Lacroix, and the general consensus now is that he was worth the price we paid. It's like paying £0.5 for a coke in a developing country while the locals only pay a fraction of that. Stay proud and suffer of thirst, or drink and let them both win. It's a gamble.

Not for Brighton - one season and Chelsea will hand them an £80 m profit.

I'm wondering if we have changed targets. With our 2 new long term injuries CB and DM I see we are being linked with Mendy? from Turkey who can play this role.

As I write this I just noticed that the Evening Standard is saying the same thing although talking about a CB.

We maybe switching horses mid stream as we don't have the money for all 3 positions.

This guy wont sign for anyone and we will the sign him a season or 2 later for double the price this is the palace way.

sick of them messing about we do every window pay the price already a few millions is nothing and they are not factoring in the time lost that player would have been in squad settling in etc.

If this was 40-50 deals that is different but its like 15mil that is nothing in todays market.

Just out of interest, for all of you that say 'just pay the money'

What are we talking here, would you go to £18m, £20m, £25m?
...or whatever it takes?

Buying players with no PL experience is a risk. Big money has been paid and left clubs with egg on their face.

Clubs like:
  • Arsenal (Pepe)
  • Man U (Anthony + lots)
  • Chelsea (Mudryk etc.)
can afford to let that happen. Clubs like Palace can't afford to make such mistakes too often.

I trust DF and SP to know where to set the limit for each player they're willing to take a risk on.
