Edouard

£8.18M for Odsonne Édouard to come here for 1 season is insanity. Palace paid £14M for him as a permanent transfer!!

Someone tag that Rudkin burner account and ask him to explain why this is a good deal

Lol
A bad loan all round. Leicester spend money to get a player they deem not good enough to use. We see Edouard’s value go to basically zero and spent £25m to replace him with somebody who has a much better attitude but who is contributing just as little on the pitch

With hindsight the mistake was extending his contract when we loaned him. We should have been grateful to get his wages off the books and cut our losses on the loan fee. I guess the feeling was that there’s a decent player in there somewhere and the move might just spark him into life.

I imagine we extended his contract and loaned him in the hope that would give him some sort of resale value if he played well. As it is we will be trying to get him out of the door this summer on a free transfer.

Another of Freedman's calamitous signings, not even cheap either. I guess they are hoping to recoup a little of the initial fee before Edouard goes on a free.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it ? Seems a long time ago when most of us were delighted that we had signed what appeared a very smart striker enhanced by his two goals on his debut v Spurs . Walking away from Selhurst that night with a smug grin and the feeling we had pulled someone else's trousers down in the transfer market for a change .
And it wasn't that long ago when most of us had him in the starting line up ahead of the hard working but incompetent JPM .So I wouldn't agree that it was a calamitous signing though it was certainly one that didn't work out either financially with little to no sell on fee or as a player in that he isn't PL standard confirmed by his non appearance in relegation threatened Leicester . Whats happened to the player that was banging the goals in for Celtic only he knows
I think Freedman is well ahead on the players ins and outs and I still trust him to spot a diamond even if occasionally it turns out to be a lump of coal

He scored 7 goals for us in the league last season. Not amazing but not calamitous either. As a comparison, I’d be surprised if Nketiah, who cost £11m more, gets close to that this season.

He was never terrible. Was always a good finisher.

However worth ethic isn't his strong point, team at the lower end cant afford a striker who doesn't contribute.

Although we dont want his wage, I wonder if its better to recall him and ship him off somewhere he'll play. If not there is no way anyone will buy him this summer. (suspect he's the kinda guy that will happily sit around and collect his wages)

But he has come up with some good ones as well. We are not alone in signing duds. Brighton, who have been lauded for their recruitment, have, according to my Seagulls supporting friend, also signed a fair few flops.

When we signed Olise, Eze, Guehi, and Wharton, they were, to some extent, a risk as they had no PL experience. Edouard was a gamble that didn't pay off, but having scored 57 goals in 94 appearances with Celtic, it wasn't a crazy signing.

We only went for Eduard at the time cos he was a much cheaper option than Nketiah in terms of wage demands and then Eddie decided to sign a new contract with Arsenal.

Which is kind of the point. Yes Edouard has not covered himself in glory at Leicester but he scored more goals for us last league campaign than Nketiah has ever scored in a league season. Maybe something happened behind the scenes but in terms of contribution on the pitch it’s not obvious that Nketiah offers anything Edouard didn’t

Yes he was, 95% of the time

I don't think Edouard has ever coped with the physicality and intensity of the Premier League.

I envisage him transferring to a European League in the summer and finding life easier - he'll probably score a few goals along the way.

He was definitely a poor purchase but to put it into context, he scored seven goals last season. In approaching the same amount of minutes played this year, Nketiah and Kamada have combined for 0 goals and 1 assist. Their total salaries are roughly double his

Yes exactly. I don’t know what we gained by bringing in Nketiah instead of him. So far it’s just cost more money for no return
