I always rated him highly and remember him scoring some vital goals, especially when we were promoted to the First Division in 1979. I was recently reminded that Terry Venables allowed him to move to Derby County in February 1980, which seemed very odd to me. Does anyone here know the story behind this, and why he was allowed to leave?

I think it was mainly money.

I hope not, although you can never be certain. I gather that Ian Walsh was diagnosed with prostate cancer a year or so ago, and you probably know that Paul Hinshelwood passed away three years ago. It's just part of a project that I'm working on right now about the Palace team of that era.

Some of the first games I went too were with tickets supplied by Dave. My mates grandad was his GP. His wife/girlfriend was heavily pregnant at the time. My god that unborn child must be knocking on 50 now 😳
