Crystal Palace vs Leeds match thread

Watching OG’s version of Royball yesterday nearly drove me mental. The most disappointing aspect was Lacroix and Richards, two senior players, playing tap tap football to each other with neither prepared to play the ball forwards or into space behind Leeds defence for our forwards to run onto. This allowed the Leeds team to have a rest then organise themselves ready for anything we threw at them.

Glasner compounded the problem by taking off Canvot and Hughes, two players who tried to play the ball forwards and given 7* ratings in some press reports. It seems to me that the players have given up on Glasner and are doing the minimum necessary to get to the end of his contract an in some cases their own.

After that rubbish yesterday I suspect Parish will only keep OG on if we get past Larnaca.
Agree re the passing between the back 3 - drove me mad.

A few observations.

Canvot's reaction - i think we need to give the guy some slack. He's young and the delay in the red seem to catch everyone a little by surprise. I quite like it actually, shows he has passion.
It was a foul on Sarr, not sure why a few have questioned his involvement, although it was a soft booking, probably made as he didn't book and send off the worse foul a few minutes earlier.

Hughes - not sure why he was captain, surely Lacroix is the obvious choice.
He just does mad things quite regularly. What a bizarre handball - i though he must have been pushed , but it was just ridiculous. Not the first time he has done stupid things at corners - the rugby tackle at Brighton a few years ago should have cost us the game.
Similarly, whilst ok yesterday his stupid fouls, especially going to ground at the same time leads to so many unnecessary bookings. Only 2 weeks ago he appeared to try and get himself sent off and had to be subbed at half time. Hardly captain behaviour.

The offside goal - whilst tight, what was Johnson doing? As a 10 year old you are told to move backwards after taking a short corner to avoid being offside. Instead he just run directly towards the goal. No football brain.

I actually said at HT if OG doesn't tweak the system and just does like for like subs we won't score.
The predictability was very disappointing.

Sadly it is the way alot of clubs operate the game is dying to much money has now taken away the joy for supporters ,
expectations have gone so high smaller clubs can't match it , doesn't make it easy to watch today's game ,
we have a big game Thursday we all know we should win , the older ones have been through this we in general just go ok been there done that , doesn't change our support it still sad as 40 years ago ,

Let’s be honest we are playing like a team where the manger is leaving, what can we expect really. If not for the slimmest of chances of progressing in the conference cup Glasner would have been sacked. If we go out on Thursday he will be gone on Friday as we have 3 weeks without a game.

If that does happen (and I really hope we stay in the cup) but if it does happen and SP does not remove him from post that is a dereliction of duty and he’s a bloody fool too.
Saving money from the payoff? It’s all about the money, except when we overpay on low quality players 🙄

Probably because he's one of a few in the squad who actually plays with passion, shows some fight and holds his teammates to high standards. I agree, Maxence is the other one worthy of consideration.
The handball was bizarre. But I don't mind a few fouls here and there. Again, shows fight. I'd rather that than have the opposition waltz through us like they do when he's not playing.

Had to laugh radio 5 live during the night mentioned Hughes name pronounced by a Brazilian commentator, Huggie! I think it was Tim Vickery.

Ref Watch yesterday thought he'd lost the flight of the ball and was afraid of getting the ball in the face. Mind you they also thought van Dijk holding Richarlison back was totally acceptable while La Croix's outside the box three finger touch was a stick on penalty.

It just demonstrates quite how broken it all is. Was it because Richarlison didn't dive?

They didn't really get into the detail but dismissed it on the usual grounds that, "it's a contact sport".
They didn't add "It's Liverpool. At Anfield".
I heard somewhere that Tottenham and, I think Villa, haven't had a penalty this season which seems odd with the way VAR investigates accidental handball and other infringements.

Neither did Guehi when pulled back by Van Dick the previous season at Selhurst. No penalty or VAR as under-investigation Coote was on duty. Howard Webb said it was because MG would not have got to the ball but a day later changed his mind and said the pull back wasn’t for long enough!!!

Ah, yes, the famous "fleeting contact". What a load of cack - it's like Dermot Gallagher's favourite DOGSO. A foul is a foul.
Declan Rice v Chelsea - arms around the striker and puts the ball out with his elbow? Move on. Nothing to see here.

Drives me mad that excuse. A foul is a foul, where the ball is or goes is irrelevant. If the person committing the foul is stupid enough to do it when the guy won't reach the ball, or it's an off the ball incident, that just shows his stupidity and the attacking team shouldn't be penalised

we are not dead certs for the drop did you read what I was replying to.
Just about the worst game of football in EPL this season, we are terrible, clueless, defence looks shaky, can't pass the ball, far too slow going forward, poor crossing, not one shot on target against 10 men. Thank goodness we have 39points in the bank, otherwise we would be dead certs for the drop.

May be you need to read it again,

Surely we can just put him on gardening leave and pay his normal wages. I think he has lost the squad now and there's no point flogging this dead horse any longer.
