Crystal Palace vs. Burnley match thread

Teams are on to it now. In every game in the last few weeks teams have simply played into space behind the wingbacks and exposed us time after time. Not really that surprising when it’s so transparent how we play and how to beat us
Almost like we have a few problems:
- we play a system with 3 CBs yet only have 2 actually able to start
- we get overrun in midfield
- space behind our wing backs get exposed

Surely solution is simple. Drop a centre back and add a centre mid in and play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1 depending on the opponent.

So nothing wrong with a system or manager when we have taken 5 points from 30 in the league and have by far the worse form? Genuine question. What would you regard as evidence of the system and manager not working?
The mind boggles

16 League games without a win before tonight and Burnley come to Palace and of course we obliege, as we generally do against teams on long winless run.

Guys, despite this massive lay out, we are still pretty poor with an even worse coach. Just grateful there are a few other clubs as bad as us, with the only difference being we have a couple of extra points (at the moment)

OUR WIN ON SUNDAY WAS BIGGER THAN ANYONE THINKS, AND COULD TURN OUT TO KEEP US UP

Anyway, here are the spooks.

Feb 11th 2026 - Palace 2-3 Burnley

The last time Burnley won in the league?
Oct 11th 2025 - Wolves 2-3 Burnley

Our next game?
Wolves, who are without an away win in the league for 16 games.

Only a fool would bet against Wolves winning, perhaps 3-2.

It is a good job JSL scored a couple tonight because he wouldve been first in the firing line considering if you removed his two goals, he seldom touched the ball and certainly didnt put himself about Burnley's big lads, compared to the weeds who play for the weeds.
He faded a bit in the second half and didn’t connect with a couple of headers but I thought he worked hard the whole game. Infinitely better than Mateta and the only plus I’m taking from a miserable evening

Blasphmey!!

Though shall play three at the back.

Though shall be short in midfield

Though shalt not have any other system

Though shalt not accept any responsibility for results

Though shalt lose repeatedly and take the team into a relegation fight… oh

I realise Lerma was MOM on Sunday but I said then and have said before that Richard’s can’t play on the left. Second half he was back on the right and we were balanced again with Riad on the left. Wasn’t the only reason for our collapse in the first half but it didn’t help. Our midfield was all over the place as well and yet again found out with Glasner’s non changing of formation plus even finishing with only Hughes in midfield and too many forwards on. Balance of the team was screwed in the first half and continued in the second half. Even though we went two up Burnley looked threatening slicing through our midfield and they didn’t give up. Another awful display by us and don’t be fooled by Sundays win as we weren’t that good then as well. Brighton were just poorer than us :-(

One thing I learned this evening is that we have already seen enough of Guessand to know he isn’t worth paying money for. I thought that after the Brighton game, despite his nice assist. He is slow of thought, slow to react and unaware of what’s happening around him. Everyone, even mainstream attackers must know the basics of defence and he doesn’t. He stands off and watches. He was at fault for at least one goal.

Until they scored we looked really comfortable and well worth the 2 goal lead. Then the mistakes in defence and every shot they took finding the net did for us.

A little perspective, perhaps. We looked good at both ends for 35 minutes – exceptionallly good considering how little the team has played together for the past 8 weeks, and we've lost our captain and best player. While Burnley was playing us straight up, we moved the ball well, controlled the game, and scored more easily than we've scored in months.

Then through 3 individual mental and effort mistakes we allowed Burnley to get the lead and set up a low block for the entire second half. Sarr, Johnson, Strand Larsen et al shouldn't be expected to break down a low block after only 10 days together.

The real piss take is not so much the 3 goals conceded, but the absolute lack of anything in the 2nd half to even get a point or put Burnley under pressure. This game was huge for us, but alas, we go and f*** it right up.

If it was a one off I’d agree with you but it isn’t. It is exactly what we’ve seen for the last two and a half months. Inability to deal with a low block. Dreadful defending from set plays. Individual errors. Lack of organisation defensively (including when Guehi was still here). The only difference tonight was us having a striker who could finish.

This is who we are now. This is who Glasner has made us

Im not having that, we collectively should be able to put Burnley under pressure. We should be able to create chances at the very least and show some fight. That 2nd half was shockingly woeful, we didn't have any sort meaningful chance. A shockingly woeful miss and a shot blazed over. That is not good enough im afraid, regardless if the players have been together 10 days or 1000 days.

No it doesn’t. It did but it doesn’t any more and hasn’t since the start of December. That’s two and a half months. It’s stopped working

A 2 and a half months of where half our first team was out injured, sarr was in africa and we lost our captain. Leeds, Macclesfield and Burnley were the only terrible performances.

I don’t think a group of premier league level professional football players should be conceding 3 goals like that after being 2 up.

I also believe as a group this team should be coached on how play against teams like Burnley who, if they go in front, will do exactly as they did in the second half.

I appreciate the sentiments of your post but we can’t make excuses for what’s happened this evening.

All I know is that watching Palace at the minute is really quite draining and unexciting. Atmosphere is pretty dire too.

I dont have much energy to go into details. But what the hell just happened?

Stand Larson deserves a mention obviously. That header was from a nothing cross which he made into a goal. More of that please.

But the rest of the game was unacceptable. Poor game management too.

Hard to believe that happened, an absolute s*** show, to collapse like that when you’re cruising against a team lacking in confidence without a win for so long is criminal.
I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised, we always like to help out struggling, managers and teams or strikers desperate for a goal, it’s what we make a habit of over the years

Too many knee-jerk reactions on this thread. At 2-0, we were looking good but then complacency set in. We dominated possession but didn’t get the breaks. Nothing wrong with the system, nor the manager, but we do need a midfield general and a strong on-field captain.

I agree so comfortable until 10 minutes of madness- we just switched off and there was nobody on pitch to calm things down when their first goal went in - no composure in the back three.

Then we get to the dreaded situation where we have to break down the low block. We have brought in players of similar “profile” (based on Glasners view of what we need) and as a result have literally nobody who can dribble with the ball and make something happen.

I kept thinking Hannibal (irritating as he was tonight) would have been more useful to bring on than Johnson/Uche/Pino. When they go down I hope we go and get him or someone like him as we just don’t have enough creative flair.

A midfielder who can score (or at least hit the target) wouldn’t go amiss either!

So you enjoyed our second half perfnace at Forest then? Maybe being 3 down at home to Chelsea floated your boat? Losing at home to Spurs (a team so bad they’ve just fired their manager) was to your liking? Surrendering at Sunderland without using a sub worked for you?

We are shite. Properly shite. We haven’t played well for months now. We have been bad at best.

All the players are back now and all the same problems remain. I am frankly amazed anyone is still making excuses for Glasner.
