Crystal Palace vs. Brentford match thread

All round solid performance, interestingly the goals came from a long ball / throw precisely aimed into the box, with plenty of Palace shirts in waiting. And a clean sheet, good stuff.
 
Great result against a very difficult side to play against. They are known for their dead ball plays and we out dead balled them 🙂 Lerma who like me most of us was concerned when selected over Hughes today was great alongside Kamada. Our back 3 were outstanding as normal. A well deserved win. Only downside for me was Mateta staying on so long and Uche not then being the player to replace him?

Good result Brentford didn't look a threat but still worried by wasting too many chances.

I would have liked to see subs used earlier and once we got second we could have tried some other players we are going to need everyone in the squad this season.
 
After seeing their excellent 3-2 win over Liverpool last week I expected our game with Brentford to be a tough one.

As it happens we put in a very professional and sound performance, playing attractive, fast football to produce a fine and well deserved victory. Wharton is good, but we proved today that we have the resources to cover his absence. Lerma looked better than I have seen for a time and Hughes made his mark as usual. Ollie's substitutions worked well too.

All in all a solid 3 points and we continue to look like a contender for a high place finish.
 
I don't really blame Brentford, they lost a good manager and a couple of great forwards so they have to find a way to pick up points to stay up and and they have. Sheer physicality and long throws. But really terrible to watch. I can see they like to bully the opposition but that was what was so fantastic about today is just how up for that challenge our defenders were today.

They really had virtually no change from the five today. It made Brentford look so limited.

It was pretty embarrassing how their travelling support got so excited about the throw ins. Shouted louder than for a corner. But we'd had plenty of practice against those against Fredrikstad.

So poetic justice we scored from one. And hilarious it was an own goal.

Kamada played really well in patches today though needlessly injured himself throwing himself into a challenge. We missed Wharton but Lerma was effective for both the goals. But the defence was simply magnifcent today. And so was Mateta's header. I'll go for Richards as MoM though.
