Crstal Palace vs West Ham match thread

Two very differing stats mentioned last night. First, last night was the 315th time since promotion in 2013 that we have failed to score in the first half, so approximately 70% of the time😱. They did not mention who was next but we are comfortably clear of anyone else during that time.
The second and much better was last nights was our 12th clean sheet of the season our best in the Premier league since 94-95 (15 in a 42 game season).
And we still went down.

9 of those were 0-0 draws!

What happens when you put two non creative midfielders with two lightweight attackers? Not very much is the answer. Both Pino and Johnson running around, but constantly knocked off the ball and mostly ineffective. Strand Larsen must be well happy with the service he gets.
Strand Larsen does nothing except run around like a headless chicken coupled with awful ball control, hold up play etc.

He’s not a hold up centre forward he is more used to running the inside right and left channels, but no one is playing anywhere near him so he is expected to do the Mateta job when it’s not his strength.

I’m not protecting him and I don’t think he was worth the money however I would like to see him get more of a chance in our strongest 11 rather than the two teams he’s had to play with last two games.

If as we expect Mateta goes at season end then I do worry about next season with the only firing forward being Sarr. Glasner won’t give a stuff about next season so he has no interest in helping get the best out of Larsen. You can already see he is moving back towards favouring Mateta as first choice and it is probably only full fitness that is holding that back.

Agree, but he was bought as a straight replacement for Mateta so our recruitment team have a lot to answer for, Hobbs in particular.

Strand Larsen has been here three months. In that time our attacking play as a team has been poor. Before he joined JPM was in awful form, missing chances, not holding the ball up, looking disinterested. JSL made a positive impact and improved the centre forward play we’d been seeing. Now some people are even suggesting we get rid!

I’m not saying JSL is beyond criticism but let’s give him a chance. Especially when the whole team has struggled to create from open play. If we reviewed JPM, Sarr, Eze or Lacroix after their first 8-10 games it didn’t look great either. Let’s give players a chance.

Completely agree. He's had a CM of Hughes and Lerma to work with.

Everyone is heralding Mateta's impact, but he's been comming on alongside Sarr and Wharton/Kamada.

I do agree with you in terms of giving JSL some time, but the concern for me is the lack of goalscoring positions he seems to end up in compared with Mateta.

Mateta was indeed in awful form and missing loads of chances, but even at his worst he did always seem to get chances in games.

JSL doesn't at all and I find it difficult to attribute that to anything other than movement, timing of runs etc. - I guess the good news is that JSL has looked a far more competent finisher in converting the few chances that have come his way, but the lack of them is a worry.

I think certainly JSL will improve; the team will get more of an understanding of his movement and vice versa, but it does concern me that he can look largely anonymous for 60 mins and then Mateta is able to make much more impact within the same game.
