Crstal Palace vs West Ham match thread

Surprised no one has mentioned that the handball given against Mateta for the disallowed goal hit him very high up the arm and certainly looked well above the t shirt line but I’ve given up trying to work out the different interpretations of handball these days.
No looked like it rolled down his arm to me

The game summed us up. Great defence, poor up front.

Brennan Johnson keeps trying but he was mostly abysmal. Strand Larsen wasn’t getting much supply and he looked annoyed to come off. He probably couldn’t believe that Johnson was staying on. Larsen looks limited. We will need better forwards for next season, especially if Mateta goes. Glasner doesn’t seem to care about the best combinations of players. He plays his best forward line or the B team and we get the predictable result. A dismal hour of football before the Cavalry comes on.
The positives. No team has ever been relegated with 43 points from 38 games.

Okay, not a great game, but I'm happy with the point. Considering we have so far had to play 14 games in Europe with a limited squad, its unrealistic to expect us to be blowing away the opposition in league games each week.

The fact is we are safe for another season in the PL, and two games away from a potential place in a European Final. I consider that no mean achievement.

Not to mention that injuries struck most of our best players – Wharton, Muñoz, Mateta – for critical periods, and we outright LOST arguably our best, Guehi, in January.

Don't bring Jesus into this.

Its a fair point, once Mateta, Kamada and probably Nketiah leave we have to consider how to supply Strand Larsen and also how to get the best out of Johnson though. The latter got 18 goals last season so there is clearly a player there if we can play to his strengths.

All in all a fair result.

With Larma and Hughes in CM it was always going to be a limited performance. Zero control of the middle of the park.

Johnson had a couple of 'moments', still think there is a player in there. Clearly needs a goal to hopefully build the confidence.

Hear Hear.
I also refer to the comments of another esteemed member citing the injuries to key players during the course of the season.
Apropos last night's encounter I predicted a draw and for once I was proved correct !

Lightning doesn't strike twice. 😉

Happy with that. This referee has stitched us up so many times in the past. How many times did we win the ball in tackles and he gives a foul? It was no surprise, therefore, that ignored the foul on Mitchell and gave a corner probably hoping the Spammers would score. MOTM for me was Canvot despite the shot. Watch the “big boys” come sniffing around trying to turn his head!

Two very differing stats mentioned last night. First, last night was the 315th time since promotion in 2013 that we have failed to score in the first half, so approximately 70% of the time😱. They did not mention who was next but we are comfortably clear of anyone else during that time.
The second and much better was last nights was our 12th clean sheet of the season our best in the Premier league since 94-95 (15 in a 42 game season).

a predictable performance, especially once i saw the line up. Far too slow build up from the back, as usual, and once again OG mentioned it in his post match comments - so why do we always do it!!!

CM combo was never going to be creative but i thought both did ok.

Pino tried but struggled to have a great influence but Larsen and Johnson are a worry. Larsen seems incapable of holding on to the ball so offers little upfront - Mateta made an immediate difference.

Johnson was praised by OG, but i suspect he had to as his performance was underwhelming yet again.
Muscled off the ball a couple of times, had an early opportunity to run down the right and stopped the moment the defender put him under pressure, missed an excellent headed chance and had a decent shot just wide and picked up a needless booking. When moved to the left was invisible.

We really need more from him

Supposedly it is our 6th 0.0 this season. Not a great stat
