Chelsea vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Getting decisions against the big clubs is near impossible. Having goals ruled out for a newly-implemented rule, is low, even by Palace's previous experiences.

A point away at the world club champions can't be bad. And the performance was even more encouraging. 👍

World champions? They’re ’avin a laugh 🤣Shows what a farce that tournament was, we made them look average on their own patch today

This is true but why allow the kick to be taken in the first place?

In soccer, when a defensive wall of at least three players is formed during a free kick, attacking players must stand at least one meter away from the wall until the ball is in play. If an attacker encroaches within that meter, an indirect free kick is awarded to the defending team, according to TheFA.com. This rule was implemented to prevent disruptions and delays caused by attackers standing too close to the wall, according to The IFAB.
So Teddy, I'm obviously out of touch, are you saying this is a new rule this season? I don't remember anything like this before. I know the lawmakers wanted to cut out the cut and thrust in the penalty area when a corner is taken, but this free kick thing is a mystery to me.

A rule never used before cost us a goal but over all a good performance, just lacking up front a bit.

Breaking news. We are a very good side.

The problem. We need a much stronger bench.

The only upside if Eze leaves is that we might just be able to add two or three players who give us more depth.
Ideally he stays, and we still sign two or three, money allowing.

The rule was introduced in the 2019/20 season can't remember a single goal being dissallowed for breach of the rule 13.

No, it was introduced in 2019 - just not applied as far as anyone remembers.
Another rule under discussion is that if a goalkeeper saves a penalty and parries it back into play it becomes a goal kick with no rebound to follow up on.

Interestingly Clattenburg said that it’s a rule where VAR should not intervene but the final decision should be left left to the decision of the referee, if I got it right.

It is not new it was introduced about 5 years ago.
But how many times has it been used before?
I watch a LOT of football and never recall seeing it applied before.
Perhaps it only applies if you're playing the World Champions.

Leaving aside my obvious bias, is anybody else fed up of VAR looking for reasons to disallow goals.

I recall Danny Blanchflower opining that football was 'about the glory.'
These days he might say it's 'about the VAR.'

They’ve plastered it everywhere. The big block of flats or office block in the background had ‘world champions’ in massive letters painted on it 😂😂😂😂
