Chalobah Recalled to chelsea

I really hate loans. All they are is a way to show off other clubs players for them to get pulled away. If they are duds we don’t want them, if there good they get pulled back. Gallagher and Trev. I actually feel for Trev as he will get discarded by Chelscum same as Gallagher. That said, Trev looked good and according to OG wanted to stay. You would think we could have put an offer in to make it permanent, so maybe he was not wanted as much as we thought or didn’t want to stay as much as we thought. Either way, it’s done now, we move on. I’m more interested in who is coming in and when.

Palace could probably have negotiated a no recall clause but that would have cost more. Chelsea looked stacked with centre backs so it looked like a recall was unlikely but a couple of them haven't panned out. Their young kid didn't close Semenyo down for a goal yesterday and Chelsea are in a tough fight for CL places so he could well see playing time

These things happen. Might mean we go the loan route for a backup wingback unless we can land one of the targets at a reasonable price. A quality upgrade on Mitchell is looking unlikely with both Liverpool and Man U also short in that position

Real shame. Has looked decent and part of a solid defensive unit. Seemed like a good replacement for when we lose Guehi. He may back in future, who knows.

However, not the end of the world. We’re well covered in centre back and generally defenders are easier to find than other positions. I suspect this means that Guehi now stays.

Riad is now fit and Richards, Clyne and Lerma can all do a job in there.

Riad has hardly played for us and has virtually no EPL experience. He could be a brilliant ball playing centre half or he could be too lightweight and not ready for the pace of the EPL. We just don’t know at this stage as we haven’t seen enough of him. What we have seen suggests he could be a very good long term investment but I would not want to be having to gamble with starting him at this stage
He looked quite promising first two games of the season. Let hope 90 mins at the weekend will help him fit in.

Fabrizio Romano has just tweeted that he’s not going back to Chelsea as there is no break clause in his loan deal. Looks like someone at Chelsea screwed up
Maybe the "its complicated" and "contractual issues" quotes that OG made in the Stockport presser were alluding to questions around whether a recall was possible. Maybe Chelsea wanted to recall him some days back, but we didn't think a recall was possible under the current agreement. However, Chelsea found a loophole and the lawyers have been slugging it out for the last couple of days.

No riad got injured 4 days before the window closed we then opted to get trev in as cover so, did like Trevor but it kinda works out as we were never gonna buy him and with Richards, riad, clyne and lerma who can go there we have more then enough cover

I stand corrected 👍

From the little we’ve seen of Riad, give me chalobah any day, but I know that’s probably harsh on Riad as he needs time to adjust to the pace of our game

The positive I see in this is we can now take another domestic loan and in all likelihood Chalobah will become available in the summer at a decent price £20m-£25m.

We now have 4/5 months to find out whether we want or need him.

As soon as he was pulled from Sunday's squad you knew he was going back. For his sake I hope Chelsea actually play him and don't just bring him back for cover. The frustrating thing is that he was getting better for us after a slightly shaky start. One positive to take from this is that Guehi is not going anywhere now. Another slight positive is that it frees up a loan slot.

That is pure speculation on your part as his recall was not connected to his unavailability on Sunday. It was Palace's admin who told OG he couldn't play as the initial loan contract stipulated he couldn't play in the FA 3rd round (i assume other rounds were irrelevant as they would be after the transfer window closed). OG stated it was not Chelsea who enforced this.

It's a shame he's gone back and i can't see him playing much, or at all, however, it's clearly an easy low cost option for them.

However, CB is on paper our strongest position and despite both looking a bit shaky we do have both Richards and Riad back from injury.

We move on

I so dislike Chelsea and I hope that they drop down the table like the proverbial stone!
Riad might be good but he looks very left footed.
That means Guehi to the middle which isn't ideal for him.
We won't be selling him this window now.

God can we just stop dealing with them, massive bunch of wankers. First we basically built Gallagher up for them so he could bang in goals against us. Then they tried to get Olise for a stupid fee. Now they're trying to screw our centre backs up. At least if he does go back we have Riad who looks decent but let's not sell Guehi to them out of principle.

We don't have that option as Chelsea have the right to match the highest bid if we choose to allow Guehi to leave so if they really want him they'll get him when the time comes unless, of course he decides to extend his contract with us (unlikely).

But Chelsea wouldn't want to sell in this window if they're prepared to eat humble pie and call Trevoh back despite having told him he wasn't wanted last summer.

Dont look at this too negatively. We were lucky to get Chalobah just before the start of the season on loan.
We could have bought him for £25m but didn't.
It was a last ditch rescue package that has worked well. Now Chelsea have got long term defensive injuries he has been recalled. It's nothing personal against us. In fact, over the years we have enjoyed many deals with Chelsea both ways and Im sure this will continue.
The last year or two may look a bit harsh, but only if you look negatively at it.
Who knows what will happen this year. We may get Chalobah back, we may lose Guehi, it's way too early to say. But as Palace fans we have to remain positive overall.
We have got a good squad to pick from for the back 3 positions even without Chalobah and if anyone will make it work it is Glasner.

Very disappointing as I really liked Chalobah but Chelsea haven’t screwed us over if this is in the agreement. They didn’t screw us over with Gallagher either as others have said. Look at our form prior to Gallagher arriving under Vieira, his two goals against West Ham kickstarted our season and without him I think we’d have been fighting to stay up.
Defence will need a reshuffle now. Riad needs time as I don’t see that he is ready.
My biggest concern is Glasner, in my view he is the best coach we have had but he isn’t getting the backing he would hope for. Let’s hope that changes by feb 3rd!

Of course it is, although I doubt OG would say that Chelsea told him that TC couldn't play. It was never referred to that he couldn't play before. Where did you hear the bit about the admin and the loan contract? To me it seems more likely that Chelsea had already told Palace they wanted him back and that they didn't want him cup tied. It doesn't matter anyway, he's gone and the rest is irrelevant.
