Censorship and Social Media

Try telling a Muslim that their god Mohammed who married a child was a peodo.
Only facts but will get your throat cut or you arrested.
That’s not Islamophobia but would be deemed as such.
It’s not for us as individuals to do that.

It’s for us as a society to do it. We have laws that stop it in our country and diplomats to point it out internationally. Pointing out what the law is here could never be Islamophobia.

So, the Batley teacher who had a view that differed from the Islamic thought process; how did that work out for him? And who got punished as a result of the actions against his free speech?

Why?

Any professional regulator will be able to determine the difference between genuine criticism and prejudicial behaviour.

Writing a well reasoned, carefully argued critique of Islam is perfectly reasonable and must be defended as the right to free speech.

Parading outside a mosque and creating a disturbance during a religious event wouldn’t be.
Doubleplusgood. 👍

Of course it isn’t,

Anything that builds trust, reduces tensions and provides reassurance to people ought to be welcomed by everyone.

That won’t stop you calling out evil acts or condemning bad behaviour. We are all free to do that. What it will address is unwarranted attacks on innocent individuals because of their religious beliefs.

Distinguishing between free speech and hate speech is vital. It really isn’t difficult but some on the right appear incapable of even understanding that there is a difference.
Boom times for the ivory tower business in Cornwall.

Would criticism of Mo's beard be ok?

I haven't read any news on that. That same as any updates on the questioning of suspected child rapists.
However, we need to be careful discussing anything on internet forums, as we might be getting knocks on the door from the thought police soon. 🙂

if i recall correctly, Graham Linehan got arrested for something he wrote when outside the UK ? And he is not even a UK citizen......making the whole thing risible. Will they be arresting the PM of Japan ?

It all reminds me of Stalin doing Leon Trotsky in Mexico City. With huge publicity. Stalin was making a point, making an example of Leon...."you can run, but you cannot hide". Commie justice.

I wasn’t familiar with this so had to look it up. He was cleared by the investigation which said he had been let down by the school and the police.

Hopefully the introduction of a new “Tsar” will clarify things and avoid a repetition for what he did was perfectly OK and what has happened to him totally unacceptable. Everyone in authority needs to stand up and call out such behaviour, whether it be from Muslims or anyone else.

Cleared but he and his family are still in hiding after threats were issued.

Of course it’s idealistic but establishing ideals and then adhering to them is what good leadership is all about. It’s very badly needed these days.
Practically every despotic leader has said they are building an ideal society.
