And it all poses a question : what is the difference between her writing nasty violent words and any politician who writes a cheque for 500 million quids worth of armaments ?

As much as I agree with you and I don't like some politicians you can't really go around saying things like “I hope somebody does something to your family” to him.
It sounds like she was drunk while sending them. I think a suspended sentence and a fine would have given her a lesson.
