Brighton vs. Crystal Palace match thread

I know it's a cliché, but it felt like the difference was that we just wanted it more. Our players were winning the 50/50 duels and chasing everything. It seemed a brave call for them to play a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old as two of their front three and it really didn't work as they were outmuscled all game. It's hard to see how their manager survives a performance like that off the back of their own poor run.

The new players have clearly brought some positive energy back into the changing room, which will hopefully see us pick up more points in the next two PL games, and secure one foot into the next round of the Conference League. What a rollercoaster this season is!
you cant say that some people on here think brighton are a well run club that face relegation in the bottom half

I am informed that the 18 year old "Babis" was signed for £29.8 Mill rising to £31.5 Mill.

It was an awful match apart from the result. I don't know the stats but it seems that Palace were the dominant team.

When we scored I expected them to step up the pressure and to be pounding our goal, it never happened and we were quite comfortable and should have scored another.

If I was a Brighton fan the lack of a reaction when going behind would be concerning.

Brighton, West Ham and Forest in the relegation mix. Oh wow it's like letting a woman loose in a designer store with a credit card but telling her she can only buy one thing. Choices, choices 😀
Not the best game but they offered so little going forward it was quite relaxing after the run we've been on; after we'd scored anyway.
Seeing the teams below us makes you realise how easy it is for clubs to fall apart now they can't just spend their way out of trouble and confidence gets knocked and some managers might be tactically good but lack man management or motivational experience.
There will be a few boardroom backsides going half crown/threepenny bit anyway.

I was busy yesterday so didn’t get to see the game until I got in last night.

I thought the first half was attritional and pretty uneventful with Dunk providing their only threat and us looking a bit stuck for ideas going forward without looking under pressure in any way.

The removal of Pino who was invisible for most of his time on the pitch did appear to change the dynamic of the game. Guessand looks strong and quick and my immediate thought was that he looks like a slightly more cultured Uche.

Sarr is class and his pace made the goal.

The big question is where do all these wide players fit into our team? Johnson looks like a very expensive signing for someone who is never going to replace Sarr and hasn’t looked good on the left. Pino looks neat and tidy but incredibly lightweight. Uche is now destined to be stuck with the kids. Kamada will now only ever be playing deeper.

Larsen was ok. Tried hard, got a decent attempt away but didn’t get huge amounts of service.

Overall, fantastic to get a win and a much needed 3 points albeit against the poorest Brighton side I’ve seen in a few years.

Agreed, a pretty awful game but luckily we took our main chance and Hendo saved theirs.

Surely Pino needs to be dropped now as his confidence is shot. Guessand will add more pace to the attack, which has lacked goals for a couple of months now. Next 2 games are crucial and very winnable.

Brighton played into our hands, a slow build up and lacking directness down the flanks.
Taking off 2 strikers with 10 minutes to go was a bizarre substitution.

They appear to have a few injuries, as we did, and their squad is looking limited. Central defender next to Dunk was poor, Minteh on the bench and Mitoma looking a shadow of last year. 9 and 10 are limited - Rutter was always a desperation signing. What a shame!

Johnson was expensive but hopefully means we're building a properly competitive squad where a manager prepared to bring subs won't see a drop in quality and some rotation is possible. If Esse was available the only way he'd get in would be to rest others in some cup games or, by some miracle, we're 4 up.

With our 4 no10's we've at last got some depth and variation.

I suspect that Sarr is the only one that almost is guaranteed a starting berth.

Pino may be best placed to unlock teams who sit back. Guessand as a bit more of the chaos factor. And Johnson is a natural finisher.

They will all have good and bad games, but the most important thing now is we have options. And oen of those options yesterday changed the game for us.

Much needed 3 points and i thought we had a bit still in reserve if Brighton did get a goal back which they did not really look like doing. JSL worked hard and it was refreshing he did not manage to get caught off side - Nketiah has been particularly guilty of doing so but Mateta was also guilty of doing so at times. Nice as well to see we now have a strong bench.

I have not been furnished with this information !
I do know he studied at the University of Tsukuba and elected to graduate before commencing his professional football career.
Mitoma suffered a foot injury this season which sidelined him for over 2 months.
