Brennan Johnson

Yes he's a good player but there is no chance we'll be paying anything like the fee being mentioned and nor should we. We're not going to double our record fee for a bit part player from Spurs. If we were going to pay this kind of fee we should be looking at at least a 15 + goal a year striker and he's not that.
Calculated risk maybe - Highly likely we’ve got players being sold ahead of next season, Munoz and Mateta I think will go and depending on what money we get offered for Wharton.

He might be..?

He might be..?
Indeed he might and he is a good player but so far in his career he's scored 1 in 4 which is pretty good for his position but probably not the answer to our prayers. It's obviously not his fault the fee is likely to be so high but there must be less expensive options somewhere in the world. Or so you'd hope anyway.

I am pretty sure Spurs won’t accept that figure. Our best option is a loan with option to buy. The guy would get regular games with us and that is probably top of his list.
I certainly wouldn't go over that figure. So if Spurs don't accept then move to another target. I like him but not worth getting into a transfer battle for him. I imagine with the potential Semenyo money coming in, Bournemouth will soon be bidding as well

Bournemouth joins the race for Johnson

Latest from Sky Sports News' Michael Bridge, Lyall Thomas and Mark McAdam:

Bournemouth are another club interested in Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson, along with Crystal Palace.

Bournemouth are looking for a replacement for Antoine Semenyo as he closes in on a £65m move to Manchester City, and it is understood Johnson is a name that has been discussed.

It is unclear yet whether Spurs are willing to sell Johnson or if he can potentially leave on loan in the January window.

Sky Sports News reported that Palace are keen on the winger earlier in December.

My understanding is that Bournemouth purchased Semenyo for a fee of up to £10.5 Mill and Bristol C are due 20% of any profit from a future sale.
The release clause is £60 Mill rising to £65 Mill.

Your right. Johnson hasn't said anything. As we seen with Eze two clubs can agree a deal but the player can have other ideas.
Very true but you'd hope that if Bournemouth are the only alternative we'd be the more attractive proposition. West Ham are probably hiding behind the door as well but he'd have to be mad to go there.

Odd story.
We've agreed a fee , but the player hasn't decided despite the move being touted for weeks?
It's not exactly out of the blue.
Does he want to join or not, and how committed is he to playing for the club?
This smacks to me of him/his agent holding out for other offers if the story is true.

Looking at the other options for him

Bournemouth - apparently agreed a loan with Arsenal for Nwaneri. No European football

Villa - although they have CL football, not guaranteed a starting place just like at Spurs.

He will be a starter at Palace, and has Europa Conference football.

Usual to agree with the club before the player, and it often goes to the media at this stage. Nothing to worry about necessarily that it’s in the open. Yes, they will listen to Bournemouth if they come in, but for now they haven’t.

If it comes down to Brennan to choose, we seem to be the most sensible potential club on the table. On the right trajectory overall, probably about the right size for him, and most importantly our style fits him very well.

What I’m most pleased about, regardless if the deal goes through, is being at this stage with a key target on 30th December says to me we mean business in this window… and that means the world of good for us keeping Oli and getting to the next stage of his project with all the resources he wants and needs.

Now watch as I’ve said this absolutely nothing more happen with this or any deal 😂
