Bournemouth vs. Crystal Palace match thread

They said on commentary their ex-player Simon Francis is technical director and has a big part in their recruitment. You’re right, I doubt you’ll see Bournemouth spending £85 million on two average players from other premier league teams where you’ll always have to pay well over the odds
He is leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season with Saudi Arabia being a likely destination.

I am 'Spitting feathers' about today's result.
We are 'Sleep walking' to relegation.
😡😡😡😡
I must admit I'm also a little worried as we still need points to secure mathematical safety and we can't be sure that we can win any of our remaining EPL games (Everton & Arsenal-home, then Man City & Brentford away). Both West Ham or Tottenham could win three on the bounce and achieve 45 or 46 pts.
Could we then claim the record for being the first team to be relegated on 43 points in a 38 game season, this would go with our record of 49 points in 42 game season?

I agree I think the fans and management have got carried away with the possibility of winning minor silverware. The premier league is our bread and butter and we should always play our strongest team to win match.

I said straight away they won’t over turn it, because there WAS contact, we could all see it was a dive and the contact was slight, but once it’s given on field that’s it when there is any sort of contact

yes, but that contact was initiated by their player who brushed into Hendo and then fell down as if he'd been shot.

You are correct about contact, but that contact has to be deliberate and not just standard momentum or initiated by the player e.g. when some dangle a leg on purpose

By winning the minor silverware we would get to play in the less minor comp next season which will help us to attract good players and a manager, and put Palace even more firmly on the map.

As others have said it wasn’t tiredness that seemed to be our issue. It was incompetent basic football skills and players being totally out of position. The shape was all over the place which suggests the necessary preparation hadn’t been done. Difficult with a game on Thursday but then again Glasner must have had a pretty good idea of the starting eleven from some time ago so the should have been working on combinations. Riad and Devenny looked like they’d never seen each other before. I could have understood a good effort where we ran out of steam but not failing at tactical basics.

Villa losing at home to Spurs says 2 things.

1. We are not safe (though cant see how Spam will catch us)
2. Thursday games are a nightmare. Even Spurs with more prep time can beat a much better Villa, away.

Mid table finish is a bit of a misnomer, it's anywhere between 12th and 15th mostly. I rather hoped we could kick on and make small incremental steps to establish a true mid table stance, but reality kicked in and I have to accept that it beyond our means - recent history shows that any player of real high quality will be picked off and the recruitment of replacements of similar ability is haphazard.
Parish was straightforward about it in a fairly recent interview, he said something along the lines that a player can come to Palace and use it as a springboard for future aspirations. The thing is getting the aspirations of the player and the club in tandem long enough so that both can move forward. This is notwithstanding having a manager able to oversee it happening.

A storm and power cut here in Thailand meant I couldn't watch the game live, only subsequent highlights. Perhaps I was the lucky one? How frustrating is it when a match doesn't even warrant the description 'contest'? I appreciate there are going to be good and bad days, but I'm sorry for the fans who spent their time and money on that showing! Even before this poor display, Glasner warned about this Thursday and the team will need to perform a hell of a lot better, if we're not going to suffer a very nasty surprise from a lively side.
Bangkok . Yes I did but there was a power cut ! 😱

Yes, it was one of the worst games we've played under Glasner and yes, the penalty was debatable and the own goal unfortunate (millimetres over the line) but, the opposition were on a roll and their attacking would have tested City or Arsenal (again) so I have calmed down a bit.

Some very sub-par individual performances didn't help (Devenny, Johnson, Munoz) but I was encouraged by Riad who is improving whereas Convot always seems to be an accident waiting to happen and Lacroix was overworked.

What did annoy me were pictures of Glasner laying back on the bench and looking as if he had washed his hands of the team (rather like Emery against Spurs) - that was depressing.

I trust we will play a lot better on Thursday and on Sunday - if not our season is over and, possibly fraught with danger as has been discussed on other pages.

I don’t know about Riad. He was a liability in the first half. Miles out of position a lot of the time and some very poor decisions. At one point he was ahead of our midfield and went to ground missing the ball and letting them break up field. Also looked off the pace and physically lightweight. Did improve when Mitchell came on but looks a long way off being somebody we can trust regularly in the league.
