Bournemouth vs. Crystal Palace match thread

"Tank was empty!" Nice of OG to protect his players, but those 45 minutes must go down as our worst ever. How come well-paid professional PL-players not able to receive the ball, control it and pass it to a team mate? Almost all of them.
Funny enough, Bournemouth led 2-0 after two crazy goals. With Wharton, Sarr, Mitchell and Mateta (later) on we looked a much better side, but Johnson and Devenney (Lerma as well, what a horrible return to his old club) were still there. Feel sorry for JSL who is surrounded by Pino and Johnson every time he starts....
Next season with a tougher European competition, will probably see us struggling in the relegation zone unless we come up with a good gameplan and manager - pretty sure Iraola won't even contemplate coming to Selhurst Park after this showing.

Hughes would have plodded around the centre circle and given away free kicks as he does, with him and Lerma paired together there would have been no attacking thrust as we have witnessed previously when they play together. Both now are of reasonable Championship standard.

Oliver G knew his team call did not work out

His 2nd half subs should have been in the first team to begin with.

Devenny - ran all day but to no avail

Johnson - needs to be sold - did Spursy have a buy back clause cos we were sold a dud - harsh but so far Crawley would not even take him for free

Lerma - less said the better - especially that header or none header off the line

As for everyone else well if tactics were to turn up , not tune in & fully drop out then the plan played out to a T

“We look forward” Max says - well I bloody hope so

A storm and power cut here in Thailand meant I couldn't watch the game live, only subsequent highlights. Perhaps I was the lucky one? How frustrating is it when a match doesn't even warrant the description 'contest'? I appreciate there are going to be good and bad days, but I'm sorry for the fans who spent their time and money on that showing! Even before this poor display, Glasner warned about this Thursday and the team will need to perform a hell of a lot better, if we're not going to suffer a very nasty surprise from a lively side.

We were always likely to lose today and Glaser can't complain with the team he put out.

Obviously we are more concerned with Thursday but as I have said several times, we aren't safe yet.

Everton will be our last chance to get a result, or else we will be relying on Spam and Spurs not winning. Not ideal.

The most notable part of the game was, without doubt, the worst penalty decision I have ever seen.
How the ref has stood a couple of feet away and seen that as a penalty and then VAR not call it a clear and obvious error will remain truly baffling. I still can't believe it happened.
the penalty and the ref needs investigating, we were not going to win but awarding that penalty was a kick in the balls, either incompetent or corrupt or both

If West Ham fail to beat Arsenal then we can relax and forget about our training game performance v Bournemouth and hopefully look forward to Lipzig. Just a small matter of holding off a very lively Shaktar side who I'm sure will not go quietly at Selhurst.

Always look at yourself before blaming others is a code I have tried to live by.

So it's totally down to me that I failed to do the research and discover that Rob Jones was the ref yesterday. Had I have known, I wouldn't have bothered going.

In terms of the performance, the first half was shocking. So many players failing at the basics.

I hope a new manager might be able to get more out of some of the recent purchases otherwise we are stuck with some very expensive flops.

Shaktar pitch was slow to stop us playing it didn't work , the team for Thursday would have rested got some sleep no worries,

Yes, one of the North West contingent of referee mafiosi, he has a history of very poor decision making.

I thought Shaktar did most of the playing, but a 2 goal lead will hopefully be a big enough buffer and will force them to come at us.

Didn't think we would win draw at best , but was disappointed with the effort regardless , if they had tried and lost wouldn't have been a issue, it was like they was learning the game

Pretty much spot on with both these comments, we might as well have stayed at Beckenham and just given Bournemouth the three points

And although we should be confident, I think some who have booked hotels and flights for the final already might be in for a stressful night, because this isn’t over

Terrible performance. I then watched Villa, who competed valiantly to be even worse against Spurs. It's rubbish for those who paid to go to the game, but I think this is just the cost of being in Europe when you're not a big club. While we are not mathematically safe, if we beat Everton, or West Ham fails to beat Arsenal, then we are. We are not going to climb much higher in the league. At this stage of the season, I imagine it is hard to focus on the league when Leipzig seems so close. Let's hope we get the job done on Thursday, as there'll be no excuses then!

As an aside, Bournemouth must have the best scouting setup and recruitment in the PL right now. I know Iraola has rightly received a lot of praise, but their current squad is packed with talent. They could still end up in the Champions League if Villa wins the Europa League, which would be an unbelievable achievement.

They said on commentary their ex-player Simon Francis is technical director and has a big part in their recruitment. You’re right, I doubt you’ll see Bournemouth spending £85 million on two average players from other premier league teams where you’ll always have to pay well over the odds

Dermot Gallagher didn't think it was a penalty but it stood because VAR didn't find an angle to prove the referee was wrong until 22 minutes later. By extension they didn't find an angle proving he was right either.

The ref/VAR has to be sure it's a penalty to give it surely? Not unsure it wasn't.

Absolutely shocking result and if we went in 1-0 down at half time, we could have been in the game still

According to everyone's favourite expert it was because they didn't see any evidence he was wrong and the on field decision had to stand.
You'd think the onus would be on proving a foul had happened rather than it hadn't or VAR is pointless.
I said straight away they won’t over turn it, because there WAS contact, we could all see it was a dive and the contact was slight, but once it’s given on field that’s it when there is any sort of contact
