Bournemouth match thread

Yes! First item too. Even Gallagher conceded both cards were wrongly awarded; he didn't even try to defend either.
He did waffle a bit about what a good ref Barrott is, he referred to him as "the future". Not ours you'd hope.
He did also mention that Adam’s should have had a second yellow for fouling Hughes. Anyone think we may get an apology from PGMOL or are just kept for ‘big” clubs?

That's often a more polite way to express that someone is pi$$-poor.

Question for Willo:
If you honestly believe there is no big club bias and refs do not favour big name players, can you explain why TAA did not get booked for removing his shirt after scoring?
I await your defence of that decision
'Sky Sports' stated that he was booked.

Thanks - Dermot Gallagher clearly did not think much of the ref.
Well, that's nice, I suppose. But let us not forget an even worse blunder by a ref at Palace - yes, by none other than Dermot himself. I was there, watching from the Holmesdale Upper, the other end of the pitch, and even to us it was clear (a) Tommy Black's shot was over the line for a goal and (b) the Leeds defender knocked it back with his arm. I remember about 15 years later Gallagher complaining that people kept referring to his mistake. That was in fact the first time I was aware of it being done, and it was such a dramatic and visible blunder he deserved it. However, good on yer Dermot, for slagging off the Saturday ref. And let's keep bringing that up too, especially if he comes back to SP.

I did not sense any virulent fustigation of the referee.
Dermot Gallagher just never gave his full support to the decisions which have raised the hackles on HOL.

And I was at Ashton Gate for an even worse one than that.

Chief ref publicly apologised.

Even Willo could not defend that twerp.

Mr. Gallagher would rather pull his own head off than criticise someone in a profession he left nearly twenty years ago. He was, however, squirming like a salted slug at having to suggest the referee might conceivably not have have been entirely infallible.

With respect I have never claimed that referees are infallible.
I have always asserted that referees are human beings and we all err from time to time.
Suffice to say, perfection is not in the human gift.
And with equal respect, nor have you openly agreed to a criticism of poor refereeing.

The game over the weekend was one such opportunity.

The same referee's even less comprehensible error on the opening day was another.

Experienced, trained and vetted EPL refs are still human, but should always operate within acceptable ranges of competence. Contrary to what some of those who post on here say, referees pretty much always do just that. We will always disagree when marginal decisions go against us and overlook the balancing marginals that went the other way. It's the game.

But when they fall outside that - especially to the extent this numpty did with the Eze free kick - we are all entitled to call him out.

You can only stray so far from the path.
