Best performance I’ve ever seen?

I thought it was a weirdly superb performance, 30% possession, but 3 goals and should have been 6. Easily managed anything Villa limply tossed at us (I would have said 'thrown', but they weren't that good!) some great team defending and last ditch tackles. but when we got an opportunity we exploded into action with directness and purpose.

It's telling that the 3 we scored were from stealing the ball in their half and capitalising. BUT only tells 1/2 the story; The other 3 goals we should have had (JPMs inexpicably ruled out goal, and later Pen miss, then TM's airshot) all came from more traditional counter attacking and build up.

We won simply because we picked our moments to press and transitioned from defence to attack with amazing speed, skill and ruthlessness and was as good a counter attacking performance as I have seen from any team. We'll need it again vs. Man City, as they are much more of an attacking threat than Villa.

Bring it on.

Addendum: Wasn't massively Impressed with Wharton yesterday. improved in the 2nd half, but missed a lot of tackles, and was often bypassed too easily in midfield. Add in a few misplaced passes, and how much he was blowing at the end, and I was quite relieved to see him subbed for Hughes. Not terrible, but needs to get back to where he was pre Euros.

You saying that, after them getting knocked out of Europe I had a sneaky feeling they might just have wanted this more than us, but it looked the exact opposite. We were seriously up for it and they looked like they didn’t really fancy it at all. But that could just be down to how well we played and/or they underestimated us

Read somewhere we have the most "effective" counter attack in the division, despite all the hype about how good Liverpool's is (8.2 seconds??... however that metric is arrived at?).

Also, we have (had?) the joint second highest set piece goals, being the same as Arsenal who... have attracted a great deal of positive hype in that category.

Sometimes I am more than happy for us to be under-appreciated and overlooked.

Before the match Emery made me chuckle with a classic Colemansballs.

Paraphrased: the FA Cup is not of secondary importance, but qualification for the Champions League has to be our primary objective.

However, the serious point. Villa did appear to be slightly elsewhere. Will City be equally distracted? If they win their games pre Final, they will likely qualify for the ECL. The Cup will then garnish an otherwise underperforming season for them. Remind you of another underperforming Manc team in 2016?

However, if they can only muster draws/defeats and remain under real pressure for those 5 places...

The Palace support at Wembley is always amazing, but, pre-kickoff on Saturday, the expectations and excitement seemed to me to be on a much higher level than it was before the semi against Chelsea 3 years ago.

I admit that when J-P fluffed his penalty, I expected Villa to step up a couple of gears and give us a good old battering. Yes, we had to dig in for a while, but once we ran through that, we ended up with a well deserved 3-0 win 🙂

Best performance I've ever seen? Given the occasion, the atmosphere, beating a (normally) very good Aston Villa convincingly....yes, the best!

I think most of us thought ‘oh fcuk, here we go’ it did feel like it could’ve been the turning point. But Sarrs goal couldn’t have been better timed

It's very rare for any team, let alone a Palace team, to have every single player playing to the max.

But that's what we had on Saturday.

All things considered I think that's possibly the best I've seen in nearly 60 years of watching Palace.

As well as complimenting us, a lot of the Villa chat was about the fact that they 'didn't turn up'.
Did Fulham also not turn up?

If we win the final, you know the rhetoric will be that City didnt turn up.

Always seams to be when we beat a team that are expected to win, they didn't turn up.

Maybe they did, and tried, but we were brilliant.

Ain’t that the truth Robbo!!

But to be fair, the media who in general don’t give us much credit have been very complimentary about us after this win, I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

I’ve been weighing it up in my mind about the 1990 semi as well, considering they beat us 9-0, they won the league and we were 1-0 down at half time, that was a special performance as well.
