Advice for Boro fan please

Morning,
Can anyone offer advice re the upcoming cup match please.

Have been to Selhurst Park many times over the years, but it's been a few year since our last visit.

After the game, how busy does Norwood Junction station get ?
Are there long queues for the trains back to London Bridge ?
Assuming it's a 7.45pm kick off, and possibility of penalties, how likely/unlikely is it, that we can catch the last train northbound from KX at 11.33pm

Thanks for any (sensible) response
Hi boro boy . Thanks for the question.
If we assume a 19:45 start we get:
21:45 expected time for normal time to end
22:20 expected extra time end w/5 min break
22:30 penalties end.

On that framework you'd be looking for a 22:45 norwood junction train to london bridge getting there for c. 23:00 on a fast service waiting 10 minutes for a tube to get you to kings cross for 23:20-23:25 for your 23:33 service. This should be doable if penalties occur because league cup attendances should be lower so the expected human traffic to get in the way should be minimized but you won't have the luxury of a margin of error. You would normally expect a 13 minute walk from where you are in the artur waite to norwood junction station, maybe longer if you have had a few and you'll only have 15 minutes or else you will miss the train you need to catch your train to Middlesbrough .

I'd note that as an alternative service you may wish to consider the bus/coach service from london victoria coach station to Middlesborough via leeds. National express service 467 to bradford leaves at 23:30 gets to leeds at 0545 . You then get the 172 from manchester airport at 0840 to get you to Middlesborough for 0955. Flixbus service N002 leaves at 23:59 for bradford, you'd get off at leeds at 05:50 and get the uk0073 service to newcastle at 08:20 to get you to Middlesborough at 09:40. This would be later than i think the 07:30-08:00 for the train but victoria is a bit closer so not as rushed although the flixbus doesn't have the best reputation, the service i took to everton had piss overflowing in the toilets and was very delayed although the price was cheap.

According to the website there is no extra time in that competition until the semi finals, so if the game with Middlesborough is a draw at the end of normal time, it will go str8 to penalties -

I regularly catch this train for evening matches. Normally catch the fast Thameslink to St Pancras and you will have time to spare for a couple of beers in spoons at st Pancras before strolling across the road to catch the train. However tonight I think there's some engineering work so London Bridge and then the underground is the alternative. Still bags of time.

Thanks for all the info, feel free to keep it coming please 🤞

Confirmed date......Tues 8th Sept @ 7.45pm

Tbh if I were you the best bet to get back to KX is to walk to Selhurst Station, there will be fast trains back to Victoria (approx 15 mins) then Victoria Line (every 2 mins) to King's Cross.
For example this evening was a 20.00 kick off.I left at the final whistle and caught the 22.13 to Victoria, arrived at 22.30.There was another fast one at 22.31.Kings Cross is 5 stops from Victoria and takes about 10/12 minutes. Bit of a crush at Selhurst Station but isn't a problem and I'm no spring chicken.
Don't use Thornton Heath as only the stopping services stop there and are not frequent. Best of luck 👍.

Thanks Gerry J, that's great info, much appreciated 👍

And a thanks to everyone for their local knowledge 👍👍

FYI.....
We left game on final whistle and went to Norwood Junction, no queues, train to London Bridge was along within 2 minutes.
Got tube from LB and were in KX by 10.20pm 👍
Time for a beer in Millers, a carry out from Tesco for the train, and a cheeky visit to Maccy D's 👍

Thought we played ok for the most part, but hey ho, we can't score as per the last 12 months.

Glad the journey worked out. Your boys certainly did play well but as you say their finishing wasn't the best. Glad Hellberg didn't put your best team out anyway.

Great support for a Tuesday night the other end of the country. Very impressive.

Good luck for the season.

Glad you got your train. TBH you was the better team, no way did you deserve to lose that 3-0, but that last third let you down and surprisingly three decent goals from us made the difference

Good luck for the rest of the season

Glad you made the train fine and had time for some refreshments.

Superb turn out from your supporters. Thought your team played very well and just couldn’t find the finishing touch. Can see you being very strong in the Championship this season. You looked organised and played some great football.

We are still very much a work in progress, our entire back 5 last night joined us in the transfer window…four of them only about a week ago.

All the best for a great Season.
