A sense of perspective ( or the deluded optimist thread)

Comments filed under 'Tongue in cheek' !

From my perspective, supporters have enjoyed the best period in our history but alas I sense that we have reached our summit and the direction of travel is towards base camp but hopefully not arriving at this destination.
I agree, but over the last 2/3 seasons we have, without doubt, had the best 13/14 players we have ever had together for a period, whoever the manager was, sadly 2 are gone, and i suspect at least Mateta, Munoz and possibly Lacroix, i dont see Wharton leaving until the following season, i would love to see Dougie back as DOF, once he has filled his pockets.

🤣

You've already been proved wrong on Glasner, Lanzo - I think it's time to accept it and move on.

I think the Jury is still firmly out for me, one FA cup and a 12th place finish doesn't make him great, he is beginning to remind me of Vieira, he was obsessed by two number 8s and a 6, Glasner is formation obsessed, time will tell, IMO he will never manage a "big" club, flexibility is sadly missing from his CV.

The part in bold is the key, because there's absolutely no objective or rational argument that the 'jury is still out';

First ever major trophy.
Highest ever points tally in the league.
Club-record 19 consecutive games undefeated, whilst competing with all of the top teams in the country.
Highest win percentage amongst all top flight Palace managers.

He's either our best ever manager, or a very close second - there is no jury left.

So you think with being presented with our best ever squad 12th was a good performance, why wasn't he snapped up when he pissed everyone off at Frankfurt, even Ten Fags won the FA cup.

I think achieving our best ever points total, whilst concurrently winning a cup, is a fantastic performance, yes. By definition it’s our best ever in both league and cup, achieved in the same season.

True. Anywhere between two - four quality additions in January could really help.
Very dependant upon how things pan out over next month. Worse case- out of Europe, out League Cup, and rapidly sinking down the table. Not too attractive to would be signings! Hopefully that will not -all-happen !

Not Glasner's finest moment. Somewhat disingenuous of him to suggest that he doesn't have enough players. It is both a strength and a weakness that he always wants to field the strongest team whether he's playing Arsenal or ateam from the Faroe Islands. Consequently, all but eleven of the squad are severely short of minutes. Uche must have played a combined five minutes all season before coming on on 78 minutes today. Was he supposed to score?

I suppose it might be argued that had more players been signed in the summer he would rotate the squad more, but it's pretty clear he things Esse and Uche are a waste of space.
Not sure about this, we have a strong first team. On the Rest is Football Gary Lineker who was at the match said he looked at the teams & thought how many United players would get in the Palace team his conclussion was two. However, if the back up is not good enough then you could have a huge squad and still not have enough. Ahamada has been demoted to the u21 squad because Glasner says he will not play for the first team.. Yet, the conclussion has been drawn by many that Glasner does not rate Esse or Uche.

An observation was made yesterday that Palace do not appear to have planned for what success would look like. Since the FA cup win we do seem to be swept along reacting to events rather than being proactive.

Maybe the players had something to do with it.

This has been my observation as well.
In the Glasner system, the wing-backs are pivotal in providing the width, yet Munoz has not been making his marauding runs and Mitchell, whilst recognising his defensive prowess, is not a player who excels in the attacking third of the pitch.
Consider the possibility that our predictable approach has been figured out by opposing managers and that Munoz's forays are lessened not only by fatigue but also by the opposing winger restricting his forward momentum by occupying him in defence. If Munoz gets forward and the ball is lost and knocked into the space where he would normally be then Chris Richards has to cover, and he's not the quickest.

Indeed I have concluded that opposition teams have planned to nullify Munoz's attacking threat.

There's an underlying feeling some posters express that basically says "we're only Palace". Look, we deserve and merit a stadium which can hold 35,000, like Derby, Southampton, Wolves, Leicester, Brighton (bit less I know) and we can aim consistently for top 8 - that's not delusional that's just the top end of our expectations - we shouldn't be happy with lower mid table and a sh*t hole of a ground - that's our platform, our base (not basement Ollie). We're never gonna be regular top 6 but nor should we be content with being in the Bournemouth/Brentford/Luton bracket. Glasner was brought to help us get to that place, not merely survive like under Roy. Eze should have been sold at the start of the window not the end - say we got 62 mil instead of 67 we save in the long term if we get replacements before we're desperate, or sticking plasters like Uche with a non-paying loop hole.
