2025 FA Cup Final thread

Just reinforces the view that VAR is a nonsense.
If the officials miss an offside or a foul when a player is through on goal then VAR intervenes - even when it's stll debatable.

Henderson clearly diverted the ball from Haaland and if he hadn't touched it Haaland may have been able to lob him or sidestep him.
Every official and professional I have heard discussing it acknowkedges that it was wrong.

Like I say, I was delighted but it seems when and how VAR is used and it's interpretation is at the very least questionable.
I don't know one fan who likes it, and at the end of the day the game is supposed to there for the fans.
The TV companies love it with their camera angles, fomenting of controversy and bloated punditry.
It hasn't achieved the objective of taking subjectivity out of the game if that was one of the objectives

The objectives did not include the removal of 'Subjectivity'.
As an example it was stated that the RRA (Referee Review Area), would be used for SUBJECTIVE decisions in the three key areas - goals, red cards and penalty kicks.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance- I don't understand that.

Whatever the rules, ultimately there is subjective decision making by the VAR panel.
There was a situation recently when a senior referee made an error and the panel refused to intervene.
Another panel may well have intervened.

It can't be truly objective when different individuals make up the panel, whatever the rules say.
The panels will take a different view of different situations arising in games.

As a firm supporter of officialdom no doubt you will say yesterday's decision re Henderson made perfect sense.
Which goes to prove that we're in Alice in Wonderland world where VAR is concerned.

Nothing is quite as it seems .

You are not ignorant in any shape or form, I believe I wear that crown !
Suffice to say the VAR system is riddled with subjectivity.

Goodness gracious me !

What a momentous occasion and result, a proud moment in the history of Crystal Palace FC.
I never thought I would see the day that we lifted the FA Cup and my outpouring of joy and elation at the final whistle will live long in the memory.I was glowing with happiness, my ageing face wreathed in merriment and I was beaming akin to a TV game show dollybird.
I am so proud of the team and Oliver Glasner has elevated us to another level.

I was lubricating my larynx into the early hours and rest assured there was a rigid non-observance of teetotalism ! Copious quantities of intoxicating liquid were consumed with glee and I am feeling the effects as I type! Pass the 'Smelling salts' Petunia!
What a marvellous day ! 👍 👍

What did you think of the ref? 🤣 😉

COYP!!!! :football:

Inconsistency has ALWAYS been the case.

Personally I thought this was no different to when their keeper wasn't carded after he took down JP for a DOGSO. And in this case Le Croix was in the centre level with Haaland.

Bollocks to them.

City fan in peace.

Congrats on the win - deserved and for me personally it was great to see some of your old boys crying at the end. I still remember that feeling in 2011 seeing us beat Stoke and crying at Wembley, after thinking we'd never win anything major in my lift time.

What your manager has done this season is brilliant. Built a solid team and I'm hoping you can keep the likes of Eze and push on next season.

Enjoy and all the best for the remaining games of the season.

Thanks Mase, very gracious of you

You've won plenty and I expect you will win plenty more. Your side yesterday was very good at football. So hard to get a touch of the ball let alone possession. But after our two previous finals and our totally deserved run to the final this year it was just totally our time.

Actually had a nice chat with a City fan on the way in. He was talking about Malcolm Allison and your cup glory from the distant past and I told him what a big part of our club he is too. Not least naming us the Eagles and changing our colours! He also asked why we were singing 'Guardiola' so I let him know about the Dave Clark 5 and how you nicked our song!

I found this on the Blue Moon website. Not a popular opinion over there but makes sense.

""Rooney doesn't understand VAR. The referee was unsighted so didn't see the play, the linesman was behind the play so couldn't see if the handling was in the box or not, so couldn't advise or overule the ref, so no foul was given on field. VAR can ONLY overrule the on-field decision if EITHER it was a penalty, OR it was a red card offense - either a serious foul or denial of an obvious goal opportunity by the last defender. We all agree it was outside the box, so VAR can't interfere on that basis as it therefore couldn't be a penalty. Erling hadn't actually touched the ball before Dean got a hand to it, so it clearly wasn't in his control, so it fails on the denial of a goal opportunity point as well. VAR therefore could not have interfered. Yes, you can argue that Erling probably would have got the ball under control if Dean didn't push it aside, but that's not the test: did he have the ball under control at that moment? No, clearly not.""
Would you care to email that over to Pep - then he can apologise to Hendo for his 'unsporting' behaviour!

I just re watched the game (still had tears).

Something I noticed. Pep was looking at the Palace supporters having a party, crying, dancing and cheering etc. He genuinely looked amazed and you could see that for all there money city will never have that heart. Money can buy most things especially championships and trophies but it cannot buy what we have as a collective group.

I will never ever forget yesterday and how it feels in my life.

Still on a high after yesterday. An amazing performance. MOTM could have easily gone to Hendo or Richards but Munoz was immense not just for his attacking pace but also for how he handled Doku.
The red card chat is nonsense and summed up well by the City fan’s post. Disappointed in Guardiola. I thought he was better than that.
And tickled to see that Palace winning means that 8th place in the league doesn’t now qualify for Europe unless there are some really freaky results today and next week. No foreign travel for those seabirds on the south coast next year then?

What a day! I travelled across London and even passed through Wembley Park station on my way to a Palace Party in Rickmansworth. Watched the game on a big screen in the local British Legion club.
I met loads of people on the journey with seemingly everyone hoping for a Palace win.
Even some City fans saw Palace as a real threat.
Palace really add something to football these days and it makes me proud.
Perhaps our Hendo was lucky not to get carded but Ty was unlucky with the pen decision....
.. the City player's legs both folded without contact, AKA a dive ! Dark arts or what!!!
But it was to be our day.
What a club we have.
Thank you

My MOTM was Henderson for his outstanding saves.

Just had a quick look at North Stand Chat, quite funny as you can imagine although some of their fans did say we deserved it.

I hope Wharton is okay he went missing after the game.
That irrelevant rabble of 'erberts on the south coast? This season we did the double over them in the top league for the first time in history, and now we are the winner of a major trophy. Although I am still euphoric after yesterday, a small part of me is enjoying the thought that the majority of them in blue stripes must be sick to the teeth of Palace!

I reckon they should now change their colours to green...to reflect their intense envy!
